Lisa smiled, seeing Mandy's smile warm a bit. Maybe they could get through this. Lisa just wanted her best friends back. Both of them. She silently promised herself she would absolutely send Terry a letter before she went to her father's house for a week. She may not get a response, but she hoped she would. She wanted to think positively about Terry instead of the way she had been thinking. Thinking that he had been hurt and it was her fault just wasn't Lisa. She couldn't help it, though. If it was anyone's fault, it was hers and she knew it.
Lisa waited for Mandy to respond to the mystery letter she had received as she thought back to the good times. Lisa's first year at Hogwarts was the year things finally turned around for her. Right before Lisa left for Hogwarts, her mother found out what her step-father had been doing. By the time Lisa came home for the holidays, her mother and Jack had been separated and were working on her second divorce. She'd made two friends she could tell almost everything. As a matter of fact, until now, Mandy knew everything except for the abuse. Terry knew everything except that and her crush. Now she couldn't even tell Mandy one little thing that even involved Terry.
She started to let out a little sigh, but before she could, Mandy had sent the owl off and turned back to her. She smiled and shrugged. "It's fine," Lisa answered her when she apologized for answering the owl first. "Must have been a pretty interesting letter," Lisa said, hoping to get her friend to tell her something. Anything. As if she was one to talk, she was still bearing this guilt alone. As it should be, though.
