RP: Visiting 2.8
Date: 15 June 1999 Characters: Mandy Brocklehurst, Charles Warrington Location: Studio 2.8; London Private/Public: Semi-Private Rating: TBD Warnings: TBD Summary: Mandy (finally) seeks out Chuck’s studio.
Though Mandy had been very busy in the two weeks since she had met the devilishly attractive Muggle in Hyde Park, she had forced herself to find time to search out his Studio 2.8 and consider why it was named thus. Having been a Ravenclaw, Mandy thought herself to have fairly decent research skills, but for some reason the mystery behind the name refused to reveal itself through research.
Finally, she decided to sit down with her Aunt and discuss the situation with her.
“Aunt Natalie,” she said as they sat at the table for tea. “I met someone in the park last week.”
“Oooh!” Aunt Natalie exclaimed. “A man?”
“Yes, actually,” Mandy said, a light blush tinting her cheeks. “A Muggle photographer. He told me that he has an art studio in London and I was hoping to go to it soon, but before I do I was hoping to divulge the meaning behind the name of the studio.”
Aunt Natalie’s eyebrows rose, her lips curved in a smirk. Fortunately, she chose to hold off on any more teasing and, instead, asked, “What is the name of the studio?”
“It’s Studio 2.8,” Mandy answered, a questioning look on her face.
“Oh! I’ve heard of that studio! A friend of a friend of a friend, well you get the point, knows of the artist and nearly worships the man. I hear he’s devilishly handsome.”
Mandy cut her aunt off before she could go into a ramble. “He is, but that’s not the point. Do you happen to know the meaning behind the name?”
Aunt Natalie chuckled. “For all your love of art, you’ve never been able to grasp photography, have you?” Not waiting for an answer, she continued, “2.8 is a setting on a type of camera. It has a focal point and the rest is unfocused. Or something along those lines.”
Mandy simply raised an eyebrow. “That’s it?”
“That’s it.”
•••••••••••••••
And now, over a week later, Mandy stood outside of Studio 2.8, frowning at the innocent numbers. It wasn’t rational to be annoyed that he’d made it seem much more mysterious than it actually was. And, really, it was a clever name. But as Mandy’s hand reached to push the door open, she couldn’t help but remember the irrational way he’d flustered her.
However, it wasn’t proper for a witch to consider such things when she was planning dates with another man. So, she stood a little straighter and pushed the door open, determined that if she did see Chuck again, she wouldn’t allow him to unhinge her so.
But as she walked in, the door swinging shut behind her, the sight took her breath away. There was no doubt in her mind, the man was brilliant with a camera!
