"I can hope," she said, dimpling. "But I know I'm not quite a force to be reckoned with yet. Someday, perhaps... maybe I'll get a more permanent gig with the paper or the mag." Her only permanent gig was the glamour column, currently, though perhaps Miles could help her with that.
"Hmm, I can see that, yes. People want themselves painted, I suppose." Natural human arrogance and vanity. Kat wasn't actually that keen on getting herself painted or such. "My mother made me get one done once, before I went to Hogwarts."
She hated it, too. She hated to look at it. It reminded her only of her mother and her uncles and that part of her life. Was she the only one that could see shadows in her portrait's eyes? Probably.
"Oh, of course not," Kat said, waving her hand. "I completely understand. Kind of like me and sources." Some of which she protected and some of which she dind't have to.
She nodded. "Well, are there a lot of you out there?" She wouldn't think so, but she could be wrong. "Once you get one big client, the rest will start coming. Word of mouth and all that."
