Luna takes a break from exploring
Date: 15 May 1999 Characters: Luna Location: the country & forest Private/Public: Private Rating: PG Warnings: none Summary: Luna returns to London
Luna crept through the dark forest, silently tracking what she believed was another undocumented animal. All of the years she had believed, and now she hoped to finally find something to validate her points. She walked as silently as possible, avoiding branches and excess pine needles on the forest floor that might make extra noise. She glanced frequently down, taking note of the tracks. She made copies of the tracks when she could and took detailed notes in her journal. She worked as long as she could, but daylight was fading fast, and she didn't fancy being alone in this forest at night. When she was finally satisfied that she had documented as much as possible for that day, Luna gave a sigh and packed up all of her things. After being on the road the past few months, just exploring, Luna figured it was about time for her to return home. Her father had returned a few weeks ago, but Luna just couldn't part with nature. The time had finally come for her to return to the land of wizards.
Walking back to the clearing, Luna tried to still remain low-key, not wanting to disturb other animals that might be lurking near-by. She patted her head, feeling her wand still tucked behind her ear, a habit she had been unable to break from school. School. She flashed back to the final battle, realizing how much danger she had been in. Luna had no problem going above and beyond to save her friends, but she knew it would have devastated her dad if she had been killed. She counted herself lucky that she had only come out with minor injuries, especially seeing as how violent her kidnapping and the final battle had been. When September came around, she would be glad to finish her final studies and take her NEWTS. She still didn't feel fully prepared for life after only being at Hogwarts for 6 years. It was a chapter she wanted to finish.
Luna shook her head, trying to turn her thoughts to more pleasant things. She hoped that she had worn herself out enough to sleep peacefully; after all, she had been up since before dawn. Luna knew she couldn't take another night's worth of nightmares. She avoided sleep until she was completely exhausted and knew she'd have a dreamless sleep. She'd kept herself constantly busy today, and she sincerely hoped that tonight would be one of her good nights. Knowing her father would be expecting her for dinner, Luna quickly reached the clearing and apparated to her childhood home.
The rest of the evening passed rather quickly, and Luna enjoyed her father's company. He had been completely fascinated with her research and had always been so supportive. Here she felt comfortable and safe, but Luna knew she couldn't stay. There were too many unfinished things back in London. With a sigh and looking at the late hour, Luna gave her father a final fierce hug, gathered her things and apparated back to her flat. Not wanting to fix anything in her disheveled apartment that night, Luna flopped onto her bed, soon falling asleep and not even bothering to change out of her clothes. The night passed with dreamless sleep, giving Luna a few hours of relief.
