Summary: Hermione returns after disappearing again.
Hermione woke up that morning feeling the familiar sense of dread in the pit of her stomach. She still hadn't been able to kick that, even after all the recent months. She climbed out of bed and threw on her robe. She padded downstairs to find her parents cooking their usual morning breakfast. They both were going into their dental offices a bit later as this was her last day visiting them.
When she had suddenly shown up on their doorstep, Hermione had been a pleasant surprise for her parents. At first it was just to be a weekend getaway, somewhere else to be besides the city. Their home was a safe haven and an escape from the ever growing turmoil in the wizarding world. On the day she was supposed to leave, Hermione had woken up with a raging fever and no voice. Taking one look at her daughter, Mrs. Granger had insisted that Hermione stay so she could be taken care of. After a few days, Hermione was feeling completely healthy, physically anyways. Mentally, not so much. Her depression had stolen over her again and she couldn't handle it right now. She still hadn't heard from Ron, and she kept having montages of all the people she knew that had died flash through her head. Knowing that Fred and George's birthday was that month only served to make things worse, so she stayed, holing herself up in the country house of her parents, effectively avoiding anything serious. Her parents knew something was wrong but wisely gave their daughter her space. Not wanting her parents to worry, Hermione kept everything to herself. Before she knew it, over a month had passed and Hermione knew she couldn't run away from everything forever. Her parents were sad to hear she was leaving but supported why she had to return.
Hermione turned her thoughts to the present and sat down at the table, thoughtfully eating her breakfast, mentally making lists of what had to be done before she left. Breakfast finished faster than she liked and Hermione reluctantly dragged herself upstairs to pack. After an hour Hermione was ready to go. She stood on the front doorstep, gazing at her parents, tears in her eyes. Promising to keep in touch better, she embraced her parents, not wanting to let go. She hated knowing it was time to resume being an adult. She stepped back, giving a final wave and then apparated to her flat in London.
Looking around, Hermione gave her eyes a chance to adjust to the dim light in her flat. She pulled open the curtains and threw open the windows, letting the fresh air in. She gave the house a quick cleaning to freshen it up. Yowling sounds could be heard from her luggage, and Hermione dashed over to free Crookshanks from his carry basket. His yellow eyes shot her a dirty glare and he shot off to rest under her bed. With a sigh, Hermione flopped down onto the couch. She had hoped to get responses from her friends but nothing had come yet. She closed her eyes briefly, only intending to rest for a moment but soon dropping into a deep sleep. She burrowed into the couch, enjoying a dreamless sleep.
