She had put this off for as long as possible. A week after her conversation with Laurie, she had called her back and told her to come early, that they push their schedules around to be able to meet with her. Now, it was three days before she was supposed to arrive in New York and CJ still hadn't said anything to Brian or Joey. She had used their busy schedules as an excuse to cover up her own anxieties, but in the back of her mind she knew that she would do this, which is why she had boxed herself into a corner with committing to the meeting. She had to tell them. It was now or never. Sure, their schedules were no less busy now than they had been, but there was no more putting it off.
Brian was almost done making breakfast and CJ had been staring at the coffee pot drip for almost five minutes, not even entirely sure she had blinked, playing the speech over and over in her head. Lena had offered to be there for moral support, and while she had accepted the offer at the time, the closer she got to it, the more she felt like this was one of those things she had to do on her own. She watched Brian pull a tray out of the oven, with three little white dishes full of baked eggs on it, and transfer the dishes to a cooling rack next to the stove. She waited until he had pulled his oven mitts off and hung them back up on the hook before she turned and rest her hip against the counter, looking over at Joey who was sitting at one of the chairs at the bar.
"Can I... talk to you guys about something real quick?" she asked, resting her hands on the edge of the counter next to her, her fingers curling over the side and the edge digging into her palms. She chewed on the inside of her lip for a moment, still not sure how she was going to say this in a way that didn't make it seem like she had been hiding something for over a year. Which, admittedly, she had been.
