Hey, big sister.
Who: Shannon Corey and Thomas Corey
What: Surprise!
When: Tuesday, Afternoon
Where: Shannon's place
Rating: Low
Status: Incomplete/Threading

The letter his mom had given him with Shannon's address was clutched tight in Tommy's left hand as he made his way to his sister's home. He wasn't sure what she'd say when she saw him. He wasn't even sure that she'd be happy to see the man on her doorstep, but he wasn't about to turn around now that he was already here. He knew she might not even be home, she did have a life after all, but he'd plant himself there at her door until she got home if he had to. He had to do what he had to do.

He felt more and more nervous with each step that drew him closer and closer to the past. He'd missed Shannon something awful and perhaps eventually he'd admit just how much he'd missed her, but he was doing his best to be the macho man that he thought he was and not let his feelings show, not even a little bit. His expression was calm, cool and collected as he lifted a shaky hand to knock on his sister's door. The few seconds that it took for the girl to come to the door felt like an eternity, but the door did open and when it did, he couldn't hide the smile that flickered upon his face.

"Hey, sissy." he murmured. "Miss me?"

Shay was feeling, well, sated. Though after the activity she just got done with, it was no wonder. She left Sonny's kitchen with a lazy grin on her lips, sandal's just barely catching on her fingers as she walked oh so slowly back to Harmony Hall. This was just, well, just good. Her morning readings had gone very well, she got to have a little something extra along with her lunch, and now she planned to go back to her apartment and lounge in front of her open window.

And lounge she did, feet kicked up on the sill and hanging out the window, her rotating fan making sweeps past her, keeping Shay cool. It was just going to be one of those days. And Shay was content to just sit there and enjoy every minute of it. Well, that was until she heard the knock at the door. Curious, she got up and headed over, wondering if it was Julia or Sonny or Eric, or any of the other numerous people in town that would possibly swing by.

Once the door was open to reveal the person on the other side she simply stood and stared. Oh, she knew who he was. How couldn't she know her own brother. But, he was here. Her little brother, who she had not seen in person since she left Atlanta, was standing in the hallway of her apartment building.

"Tommy?" The question was whispered. And then a grin blossomed and she leaped forward, arms going around his shoulders. Five years, that was how long it had been since she saw him, and in that five years he changed, a whole lot. He was taller, broader, but still her Tommy. The little brother she had, at one time, been very close to, and still loved dearly. "Oh my God, Tommy. Yes I've missed you!" She then stood back, still grinning. "What are you doing here?"

It'd been far too long since he felt those slender arms wrapped around his shoulders and he couldn't help but let the smile spread wider across his face as he let his own arms wind around the small frame of his sister, pulling her body tighter still against his own. It felt good to hold onto her, felt good to breathe in that familiar scent of the sister that had meant so much to him growing up and still meant so much to him now.

"Missed you too." he breathed, though the words were barely audible as he continued to hold tight to her until she pulled back, grin upon her face mirroring his own. The sibling resemblance obvious between the two of them. "I came to see you... maybe stay for a while if you think you can put up with me. I can get a hotel room or something around here, can't I? Unless you'd rather me just turn tail and head on home."

Shay was so surprised and happy! But more than that, her happiness at the situation was enhanced. She knew he was happy too, the physical connections and proximity kicking in and giving her a dose of her brother's emotions. His happiness was so apparent, but as Shay took a moment she felt it tinged with something else, though she could not pinpoint it. She wasn't that good of an empath. But she pushed it aside for now.

"Like hell I'm going to push you out and make you sleep with the ghosts!" She pulled Tommy inside her small, two bedroom apartment. It had an eclectic assortment of furniture, but it all seemed to fit together well, and it was definitely Shay in it's deep colors and wood tones, as well as the welcoming and warm way it was laid out. "You will be staying with me, silly. And you can stay as long as you want!"

Tommy grinned at her as she pulled him inside her apartment. It definitely voiced Shay as much as furniture in a place could. Everything, eclectic as it might have been, fit together just right. It was warm and welcoming and he found himself wanting to stay even more than he thought he might. Maybe coming here was a good idea after all.

"Looks like you've got yourself all situated." he said, his deep Georgian accent thick as it always had been. "So, what have you been doin' with yourself out here?" he questioned.

"Well, I have been here five years just about," she said, voice teasing. She walked to the middle of the room, anklet jingling as she walked, and turned to him, hands on her hips. "Shall I give you the grand tour?"

With a grand, comical flourish she t=stayed stationary and motioned with her hands. "This is the living room and dining room. Over there is a small, two people is pushing it, kitchen. Then down the hall, the first door is the spare, which will be where you are sleeping. I'll have to clear the twin off for you. The next door on the same wall is to my room, and across from me is the bathroom!" Turning back to Tommy, a grin on her lips, she raised her brows. "So, impressed with your big sister yet?"

Yeah, she knew it was small, but she liked it. It was quaint, and it worked. and it wasn't like she had a lot of things... Actually, she had been tossing back and forth the possibility of hunting for a roomie. After all, having someone else around during her days off when she had nothing going on could be nice.

"Impressed." Tommy said with a nod after his sister finished the little tour of her apartment. Coming down off of an even smaller apartment was certainly not something he was about to brag about when his sister was doing a hell of a lot better than he'd been doing. He hoped that he could change things now that he was getting his feet underneath him again following the death of his grandmother. It had been difficult losing the woman, even if he hadn't been as close to her as Shay had been.

"I've really missed you." he said with a little sigh. "Should have come to see you a long time ago."

Shay chuckled and shook her head. Really, her apartment wasn't much, but then her brother had been living... She paused, eyes turning on her brother and narrowing as her lips pursed. Her hands went to her hips as she studied her baby brother, and she looked every inch the skeptical little southern woman she was. Now this just wasn't right.

"Wait a minute, now Thomas Ray Corey. Aren'tcha ya suppose teh be at that school of yers right now?" As she spoke, if it was even possible, her accent got even thicker. Half on purpose, since she was try to sound like her mother (and grandmother), and half because, well, it was just her.

He knew he'd be in trouble eventually and it only figured it would be right off the bat that it happened. "I took some time off..." he said, which was about all he really could say on the subject. "Figured I'd come see you for a bit and go back if that's what needed to be done." he explained. "Or I could find a school down here and pick up where I left off. It's not a big deal so you don't have to be talking to me like you're mom. I already got my butt handed to me by her."

Shay was frowning as her hands came up and her arms crossed. She walked up to him, and tilted her head back to make up for their height difference. "Well, you best be planning on going back." And then she deflated and sighed. "Not that I have room to talk. It's your choice what you do, really. I'd just been hoping you'd make up for me not going to school like a good girl."

Of course a part of her had been hoping her brother might come down around here some time, had been since reading her letter from Grandmamma. But she'd never actually thought her football scholarship brother would actually take to following her. "Well, come on, sit and tell me why you're really here, because I don't believe for a minute you drove all this way just because you missed me."

"I can always do the classes I was taking online." he told her. "And I can always go back and pick up where I left off if I want to." Tommy went on. He liked school, really he did, but there felt like a whole lot more to life than how much studying he could pack into the night.

"I wanted to see you and I did miss you... I guess that's a lot to do with why I came." Tommy told her. "And because I wanted to see what you saw in this place." he went on.

"Ok, ok," she said, hands raising as she sat down on her couch. "I give up on lecturing about school. I'll stop. You do what you want." Shay took a moment to adjust herself in the middle of the couch, getting her legs tucked up underneath of her and her skirt arranged around her knees. She even moved to button up the two buttons she had left undone, largely for a certain cooks benefit. But sitting around with your brother didn't warrant showing cleavage really.

"Well, it's not really an attraction I can explain to you. You either love this place, like me and the people who live here, or you hate it and move on." She gave a small shrug of her shoulders. "It's small, and not a lot goes on here. Sure, there are psychics like grandmamma and me, mediums who mess with the ghosts, and healers around here, not to mention the ghosts, but it can get kind of boring. It's nothing like Atlanta."

In all honesty.... Shay was hoping her brother would love Cassadaga and stay. However, because her grandmamma had been unsure at the time, she herself was not allowing herself to hope Tommy would chose this small town too. No, he was a jock and smart, and he had places to go, people to meet, and a career to find. After all, why would her smart baby brother want to hang around with a bunch of spiritualists?

"I'll figure it out before too long." Tommy promised her, giving her a little smile as he moved to settle himself on the couch beside her.

"Sure, it might be a small town, but I wanted out of Atlanta just as much as you did." he told her. "There's a lot happening there, but it's always the same old thing. At least here maybe I'll get a bit of something new and different and I've got you here too so that makes it appealing. I mean you are the closest family member I have left. Can't take that for granted."
