WHO: Eva & Megan Marple WHEN: Wednesday May 2, afternoon (same time this happened) WHERE: Cool Beans SUMMARY: Megan and Eva meet at the coffee shop to casually wait and hope for one celebrity sighting, but get a different one instead. WARNINGS: None, I think?
Eva looked all around Cool Beans as she walked through the door, scanning the scene for Tinsley Wyatt. Besides the Bellowes Inn, where Eva had just finished an entire shift without a Tinsley sighting, Cool Beans seemed like the best place to run into her. Eva had to shake off the thought that if Tinsley was there, it was partly on her recommendation. Sure, people tried places on her recommendation all the time -- it was part of her job working at the Bellowes Inn -- but not Tinsley Wyatt. Her being in Fall City made everything seem monumental.
But she wasn’t at Cool Beans right at that moment. Oh well. Maybe she’d show up later, and if not, at least Eva could get some coffee and hang out with her cousin.
While not quite the megafan that Eva was, Megan was still a big fan of Tinsley Wyatt, and completely shocked that she was here in their boring old town. She'd had a short shift at the library today, so it was easy enough to head over to Cool Beans. Walking inside, she scanned the place for either Tinsley or Eva. No pop superstar sightings, but she did see her cousin. Walking up to her, Megan looped her arm through Eva's and leaned her head on her shoulder. "Nothing yet?"
Eva leaned her head on Megan’s and snuggled a little closer. “Nah, I literally just got here.” She put a hand on the mug of coffee on the table in front of her, checking if it was still too hot to drink. “What do you want to drink? I’ll treat you.”
"Well, you got us a comfortable place to hang out and keep watch, at least," Megan said with a smile. "And just a black coffee, thank you." She released Eva's arm and leaned back into the couch, eyes scanning the room-- not looking for Tinsley, they already knew she wasn't there (yet??), but just to see who else was hanging out today.
Eva went up to the counter to get Megan’s coffee, which was a lot faster to make than her own vanilla latte. She was back at their seats in just a few minutes. It was lucky that they had a good view of the door, otherwise she’d have to turn around every time she heard it open. As it was, she could act more or less normal. “How’ve you been, anyway? I feel like I haven’t seen you in a while.”
Megan took the coffee with another thanks and immediately took a sip; she had long ago lost any kind of sensitivity to hot coffee. "I've been good!" More or less. "Busy, running back and forth between the library and the faire. I'm going to be so glad when it's over." Of course, then she would have to go through all the books they had collected over the week and get them entered into the system and put away, but she actually usually enjoyed doing that. "How have you been? Is it completely crazy at the Inn?"
“Yeah, it’s settling down a bit from when the film crew first arrived, but it’s still super hectic. We haven’t had this many guests in like, ever.” Eva paused to take a drink of her coffee. “I’m basically only at work, at the faire, or sleeping. Only now I guess I’ll add Cool Beans to my schedule.”
"At least this is good for business around here." Megan took another drink of her coffee, looking around again and noting how many out-of-towners were also here, hoping for a glimpse of stars. "I've never seen the town so busy. And of course everyone wants to read about the fire at the library."
“Like in the newspaper archives? Or do you guys actually have a copy of One Hundred Thousand Lightning Bugs?” The look of disgust on Eva’s face was unmistakable.
Megan made a face, too, at the mention of the book. "Thankfully, nobody has donated a copy of it to the library." Yet… but hopefully not ever. "Just the newspaper archives. This is the most action they've seen in years." The door opened and Megan looked to see if it was Tinsley. It wasn't her, but it was still a visiting star: Moira MacTeer, accompanied by their very own Camila. Megan nudged Eva, and gave Camila a small wave and a smile.
Eva’s eyes snapped to the door as soon as Megan nudged her shoulder. Seeing Moira MacTeer already felt like nothing special to her, but many of the other patrons in the coffee shop started whispering to each other or holding up their phones in what they probably thought was a subtle fashion. Eva smiled at her sister, though it quickly turned into more of a grimace as she heard the actress order a drink for “Cora.”
Megan barely resisted the urge to roll her eyes when she heard the actress clarify that her order was for Cora. She just couldn't understand why actors would walk around pretending to be their character when they weren't filming, especially when the "character" was a real person. She didn't remember much about Alice's mother, having been so young when everything happened, but she couldn't imagine that Alice or her mother would have approved of this.
But when Moira drank the coffee and suddenly dropped character, Megan stifled a laugh behind her hand as the actress stormed out of the coffee shop. As Camila went to follow her boss, Megan took Moira's cup from her cousin, suddenly aware once Moira and Camila were gone that all eyes in the coffee shop were on her and Eva. "Think we could auction this off to the highest bidder?" she whispered jokingly to her cousin.
