WHO: Emilia & Tony. WHEN: This Morning. WHERE: The Municipal Buidling SUMMARY: Just your everyday talk about missing cows & anonymous letters. WARNINGS: None.
Operation CowTown was underway. Or mostly completed. Or really Tony was not entirely sure where they were at with it. He had gotten six hours of sleep in a row for the first time in about two days, so that was awesome. Sleep was super great. But now he was back at his desk and ready to possibly track down more cows that had sort of invaded their fair town when they have also sort of lived in to.
“Heeeey boss.” Tony waved as he walked up to Emilia’s office. “So where are we on cows per capita?”
Emilia smiled at him in greeting. “Technically, we are always going to have the same amount because they will still be in town. The loose cows have decreased significantly, though I’m still waiting on Ted to give me an update. Are you well-rested?”
“Define well rested.” Tony mused with a grin from the doorway. But he had followed orders, gone home, slept, even though he had really wanted to see infinity war. The truth was though that he was almost certain that seeing that movie sleep deprived would end up with him crying in a public place which was something that was reserved for special occasions.
“Teddy did say she’d give me ice cream, bet that I can negotiate that to all of us.”
She sighed at his response about sleep. It wasn’t as if she could complain about that too much. Sometimes that came with the job and she was just as bad of an offender of that particular crime. “I didn’t exactly expect you to become sleeping beauty.”
Emilia shrugged her shoulders. “You, in particular, deserve it anyway. You took the lead on this, you get the rewards.”
“Jokes on you, I’m always this beautiful.” Tony preened playfully for a moment before joining in with Emilia’s laughter. He was at least far more alert than he had been. So he couldn’t exactly argue with Emilia’s call, it had been the right one even if he hated stepping back.
“Awww, tell me how you really feel.” he smiled bright. “But I just did what anyone else would if they’d been the one on call.”
She shook her head back and forth as he jumped from one joke to the next, as was Tony’s way. “I trust that anyone else in this department would have too,” Emilia agreed easily. “But this time, you were the one to do it. You can brag about it to our new arrivals next week.”
“Ooo bragging, you know how much I love to do that.” Tony winked before shaking his head. “Shouldn’t have winked, made it weird. Sorry about that. So am I still on cow duty then?”
Emilia nodded her head in agreement - the wink did make it weird. “Pretty much everyone is on cow duty. No other emergencies right now. Other than that we’ve mostly just go neighbors complaining about other neighbors.”
“Is there any fun neighbor complaining?” Tony asked with a cock of his head. “We've had people acting weird since the film crew rolled in.”
She looked over at Tony, letting her own mind roll through what ‘weird’ things she’d taken note of. There was never a moment you could really stop paying attention to these things. “Can you tell me a little more about what you’ve perceived as weird since the film crew rolled in?”
“You know. People on edge. That weird thing with the posters for Marce’s dogs.” Tony shrugged, not because he didn't think they were important, but because maybe on their own they'd be nothing of circumstance. But they weren't on their own. “I mean the cows are weird too but we know that probably isn't related to anything.”
She nodded, she did know. And It was something she was keeping an eye on as best she could. Then Emilia added, “Lola was also in here the other day to tell us about a letter she’d received. Nothing seems to be conclusively related, yet. But I expect that will change.“
Another letter. Tony hadn’t told Emilia about Hugh’s because Hugh hadn’t wanted to report it. But now Lola had gotten one too? And as far as he knew Hugh and Lola didn’t have anything to do with each other. “Did anything come from that? Or we just have the shot from the security cams for Marce’s posters?”
Emilia watched his face for a reaction, knowing him well enough to know that he was trying to connect the dots. “Nothing yet. We have a scan of the letter, if you’d like to take a look. Lola has some security but it doesn’t help because the mailman delivered it.”
“Poor Carl.” Tony sighed, shaking his head. “Maybe the cows did it. And we’re looking at this all wrong. You know some of them are pretty shifty.”
“As a rule, I don’t usually think the wildlife should take the blame for sending letters or packages through the mail.” Emilia shook her head back and forth. “I might change my mind on that after we evolve into a Bojack Horseman world.”
“I don't know, they're pretty sneaky cows.” Tony held up his hands in defeat as he stepped away to head back to his desk. “though no thumbs probably makes writing hard come to think of it.”
