TO: Nicholas Wolfe FROM: Dr. Jennifer Wolfe SUBJECT: Birthday Greetings From Mom!
Nicky,
It’s been a while. I know, I’m really bad at email. And letters. And phones. I have one of those flippy phones now. Like on star trek. And it’s a satellite phone so even on site I can get spam calls! Technology!
But it’s on me for not getting in touch. And I’m sorry. There are the normal excuses. Work. It’s always work, I’m very busy. I have a new book coming out that will probably be the number 5 seller on Amazon for pre-colonial Peruvian studies. But that’s not what this letter is about. I’m distracted. I had such eloquent thoughts before I started writing.
Blaze, my baby, you’ve grown into an amazing young man. I know I haven’t been the best at keeping in touch, but I do love you and am so proud of the man you are becoming. You’re on the cusp of being able to choose whatever you want to do with your life.
Since you were born I’ve been socking a little money away every year on your birthday. You’re 21 now and I think it’s time to turn that money over to you. Use it for whatever you feel would be best. College, adventure, whatever your heart calls to you. Because I know your heart calls to something, you’re too much like me and your father for it not to. So take it and make something real, some experience that will help you grow into the person you’ve always wanted to be.
