WHO: Maxine Ryan & Hugh Christian. WHEN: Shortly after Max arrived in Fall City. WHERE: The Bellowes Inn. SUMMARY: First meeting! Dialogue only challenge. WARNINGS: None.
"I didn't see that there was someone in here, apologies, darling."
“Maxine Ryan. Or Maxine. Or Ryan. No darling, dear, or sweetheart. [ … ] And you are?”
"Hugh Christian, it's good to meet you Maxine. I'm portraying David Lewis and you're [...] the new production coordinator?"
“I am. Good guess.”
"I've been paying attention to Cecelia's emails. Welcome to the production."
“Thanks. Is that out of a usual attention to detail or are you just worried about the production?”
"Usual attention to detail, but I suppose that'll be something that will prove itself over the next few weeks. Have you just arrived then?"
“Yes, still getting used to this place but at least I won’t be here forever.”
"That's the way of most film shoots." [...] "First time in Washington state?"
“Have you been on many sets? Yes. First time in Washington state.”
"Mostly theater work, outside of a few independent projects. If you need recommendations for things to do in Seattle, I know Seattle very well. Fall City, less well, although there's a lot less to know."
“Anything I’d know?” [ … ] “I might, it’s always good to know which restaurants are overhyped.”
"I've been doing productions with the Seattle Shakespeare Company, and at the Seattle Repertory for the past three years. The films were largely student projects, so I'd be surprised, but you might know one of the directors, Jeffrey Jason? He had a short highlighted at Sundance last year."
“Jeffrey Jason. Sounds vaguely familiar. Maybe I’d know it if I saw it. What made you audition for this film?”
"My goal this past year was to begin expanding into film work. An opportunity to work with Cecelia Reyes? And to tell a story that's local history? Both challenge and opportunity - I couldn't resist."
“Hey, that’s good. You sound like you’re giving an official interview.”
"When I was a young and impressionable wannabe actor someone told me I should always have an elevator pitch; I took it to heart."
“I never would have guessed. Well, it was nice to meet you Mr. Elevator Pitch.”
"Just think, if you need someone to give an official interview, you know where to find me." [...] "It was good to meet you, Maxine Ryan. Oh! and if you want a cup of coffee, I just brewed a pot around the corner; help yourself."
