Molly had enjoyed the time with her family and being back home, but heading back to school was good too. She found she had missed Gabe a bit, and her other friends too. She wandered into the common room after a bit of time around outside, needing to get used to being back at the school and wanting some quiet time as well.
She seated herself in the common and crossed her legs, leaning back against the arm of her chair and getting comfortable. Being here was nice. She couldn't do this at home.
Gabe was both glad to be back, and a little sad. He missed his sister's fiercely, and four days at home didn't do nearly enough to relieve that. Still, it was good to see them, and certainly better than nothing. Sure they wrote each other constantly but it was better to be able to just lounge on a sofa with them. It was reassuring too just to see them. He was still in a social mood now that he was back at Hogwarts, and that meant hanging out in the common room.
Molly had been distracted when she wandered in and settled, but as she looked around she noticed Gabe and a small smile curved her lips. Her position adjusted and she rose, moving to seat herself closer to him. Someone she didn't mind talking to at the moment - the stupid scribbler rumours had brought out the morons in force, and he was not one.
“Hey. How was your time at home?”
Gabe smiled as Molly repositioned herself. "It was good to have some time with my sisters," he answered honestly. "You had a good time with your youngers? Or glad to escape them again?"
“I missed them. I always miss them.” Because even though she complained (there were so many in the house, after all) it was hard to be away from them all. “I imagine it's the same with you? Not being able to see your sisters except on breaks?”
"Mine can owl," Gabe answered, since both of his were witches as well. "So there's that at least." It wasn't the same but it was something. "My older sister might have a boyfriend, so it would've been nice to have a chance to check him out some… Christmas break hopefully, if she's still with him."
“I can send and get letters through Profe… I mean Harry.” It was a way for her to write when she wanted to, so it was nice. “A boyfriend. You'll have to check him I guess. I'm usually the one checking on the girls and boys my brothers and sisters get interested in. Dad’s pretty scary too though.”
So was Gabe's father but in a different, more paranoid kind of way. The shadows around his father had shifted, but he didn't have any new nightmares. He didn't think his father had killed anyone else, but had seen something new. "It's the visions thing… I can See different things than my sister or Dad can," was all he offered.
“Yeah. I know.” Molly could too, but she didn't see any reason to draw attention to that. It wasn't something that was important in the moment. “It's got to be hard being at a different school than your sister. Your dad made that call? Or she did?” It was a curious thing. Usually people went to the same school as their siblings in the wizarding world.
"Our Mother went to Salem," Gabe explained. It was rare he mentioned her, but that was in part because there wasn't usually cause for it. She'd been dead a very long time. "So it was sorta a thing." Not something that was talked about, but it was. Gabe didn't even know for sure who decided, and when.
Molly nodded slightly. It was a bit strange hearing him mention his mother, but she did not mention that fact. It was just something she would accept and brush over - if he wanted to mention more she would listen but pushing wasn't appropriate. “That makes sense though. She likes it there?”
"As much as everyone likes school." Gabe grinned a little at that. "You go to a different school from the rest of your family - so you know what it's like." It was normal only because it was the way that it was and the only thing they'd known.
“Yeah. It sucks. Not much choice in mine though.” Because she had to attend a magical school and her siblings were back in Chicago in a Catholic school. “What did you do back home? Lots of food?”
"Pretty much." Gabe agreed. "A little riding too." Since he was home, there were plenty of animals to ride, and it was something to do with his sister(s) that got everyone out of the house for a while. "Got dragged out shopping for a bit." He would do the rest of his shopping when the term was over, in the days before Christmas.
“Sounds like fun.” She had also been pulled into shopping for the upcoming holidays with her mom and brothers. Not that her mom couldn't carry massive amounts of things but she and her two oldest brothers were the strongest and most capable when it came to shopping trips.
It had been good too to see his sister healthy, but again, that wasn't something to share randomly. "It was… well not the shopping as much. They were playing the game of 'do you think these things go together' with me." He always lost the game, but since it made his sisters laugh, they had fun with it.
“That seems a little unfair.” Because she knew of his colorblindness, obviously, and remembered that fact well. “Bet I could get you to win and freak them out some…” Inventing a signal would work, though if he was accepting of the losing record she would not be bothered much. “I haven't met them though so I'm sure they'd figure out my scam eventually.”
Gabe took his color blindness for granted. It simply was. "That's the point." Unfair was half of the game. "They'd call me on cheating fast." But would adore Molly for thinking of doing it, probably. The family had a twisted sense of humor. "They'd likely give you credit though."
“But would they be able to figure out how it was being done? A subtle enough cue, they would know we were cheating but not how.” A smirk and she leaned back in her chair, tucking her feet under her. “It's a shame we were too late getting to your house over the summer. I'd like to meet them one day.” Casual statement, she was curious about his family. His sisters at least, because he seemed to care for them best.
"My older sister doesn't actually live at home anymore… she has her own apartment." And Gabe's younger sister had been in rehab, again not something to explain. "And they might not know how, but they'd know it was happening… We're pretty observant of spies and cheats in our family." It was the price of constantly sweeping the house for scrying devices and throwing out nannies for spying.
“That makes sense. Still, even if they both lived there we didn't get to your house until far too late for any of that. Though knowing my siblings as I do, it would've led to teasing for decades.” Her brothers and sisters always poked fun when she had people over, outside of Dominic- he wasn't likely to be a boyfriend and so they left that alone.
"Oh, they do that even without actually seeing who I bring home. They do know me." He didn't hide his promiscuity at home any more than he did at school. "My little sister might've even hooked up with one or two of the guys I've messed around with. Not at the same time though."
“I don't bring people home often. That's why I get teased for it.” Because the double team of her mom and dad usually scared off any potential boyfriends. It just was what it was, and adding in Harry overseeing her, it was senseless for her to even really try to date.
"I do, which is why I get teased for it. And when I don't it's because I hooked up somewhere else." Gabe was at least honest about it all. Which of course was why they teased him.
Molly shrugged. She wasn't quite as open sexually as he was. Until very recently she'd been a technical virgin at least, and she didn't talk about sex or boys or any of it back home. “I don't think they expect me to date ever. The most they ever see is Dom because I'm so busy training and all…”
"Well family can be like that," Gabe felt that way when his older sister first started bringing boys home… less with his younger sister, but they both clubbed together so it was a different kind of relationship. "It's not typical to know that much about one's siblings sex lives."
“I know. I prefer not to know about that with the boys.” Because they were getting toward the later teens as well and she didn't think she needed to know about things like that with regard to her brothers. “It's sort of nice to be back though, I think, since it puts us closer to done.”
Gabe shrugged. "I'm in no rush to finish yet, but not having homework might be kinda nice too," he agreed.
