Who: Alice and Rhiannon When: 29 November, on the train, morning (boarding and after) Where: Train What: Conversation between Roommates Rating/Warnings: None Status: Closed/Complete Rhiannon boarded the train, a care package from her mother clutched in her hand. She knew what it contained- stasis charmed cheesesteaks, pretzels, and some baked goods from a local bakery that Rhi enjoyed. She flopped into a seat in an empty cabin, stretching herself out on the chair and pulling out a cookie, which she immediately began to nibble on.
Alice was trying to make sure Ari had no choice but to sit with Ethan. It was her way of doing her part to encourage her friend's entirely adorable not-quite-relationship with the Ravenclaw wandmaker. And that meant sitting with other friends. She grinned at Rhiannon and waved. "Can I join you?"
“Sure thing.” She held out her bag to the other girl and smiled. “Have a cookie?” Because sharing was never an issue and she could always send back home for more when she ran out. Being around Alice and her other roommates was fun. She was glad for the company honestly. “How was your break?”
"Utterly mundane," Alice settled into the seat and took the offered cookie. "Thank you. How was yours?"
“Pretty much the same. Magic out of school is okay now though so that's nice.” Rhiannon smiled at the thought of being able to to use her magic for herself now whenever she liked.
"I can't wait until I can… although I probably still shouldn't at home unless I'm by myself." Her family was like that - magic would freak them out. "Which is almost as hard."
“Yeah, it was harder when my brothers came of age and could use magic while I couldn't.” It was annoying to have to deal with but now she could use magic same as the rest of the family. “Being of age is kind of nice, I can't lie.”
"I guess I'm lucky I've never had to watch my siblings do magic when I couldn't," Alice smiled a little at that idea. No, it was not something she would ever have to worry about in her life. "So there is that at least."
Rhiannon nodded. “Yeah, it's less fun when they're all doing it and I'm just sitting around not able to.” It made life difficult not being able to use magic when she had been so used to it at school. “You're almost there, right?”
"Not until May… but I'll be able to before next summer at least." Alice was grateful for that at least. "I'll be stuck for Christmas and Easter breaks, but those are shorter at least."
“That's not terrible. It could be worse.” Because it could be summer before she turned to become of age. That would be a lot worse. The vacations without the ability to use magic would be a lot longer.
"It could be… I could be one of those poor August birthdays," Alice agreed with a laugh. "And we're on the train going back to school where everyone can use their magic anyway."
“Thankfully you're not though.” That would not be fun at all. She ran her hand through her hair and pulled out another cookie. “Another?”
"You were sent with quite a stash weren't you?" Alice noted, taking the offered cookie. "Thank you. And these don't have blood… Those rumors," Alice rolled her eyes thinking of both Professor Donovan and Rhi's rumors.
“No. I don't have a problem with blood but it's not a huge thing either way.” Rhiannon shrugged a bit and laughed. “No blood in my food or in my bed typically.”
"You were a vampire last time as I recall? Or was that just Halloween?" Alice mused. "Me of course I'm not drugs… I think if I wasn't a child my parents would've thought that too, until we learned about magic."
“Both, I imagine. I suppose the fascination with blood lingers.” She didn't have a problem with the suggestion. Blood wasn't a big deal. It was amusing to her but nothing that was all that important. “You're not on drugs. You're just dreamy and creative.”
"That's the positive way to describe it," Alice agreed. "Or a daydreamer and a poor student." Which was how her family described it.
Rhiannon tried to stay on positive descriptions of people. She didn't want to be the cause of someone feeling bad about themselves. “You're a lot of fun. It's important to be fun, I think.”
"Thank you," Alice smiled at Rhiannon. It was nice to have roommates and friends who cared about her. It was one of the amazing things about being a Hogwarts, really - beyond just the magic.
