Narissa thought Adrian was being stupid in dumping Jackson, but she knew too that she had to be there for her brother. She headed over to his dorm, bringing with her snacks and cocoa. It was hot but without charms she had no choice but to start warmer and let it cool. Once she got in (thanks to his captain) she looked around before heading up to the room she knew was his.
A soft knock and she walked in, offering a wave with her free hand. “Hey. I come bearing cookies. Is that enough payment to disrupt your solitude?”
Adrian was holed up in his bed surrounded by books and homework. If he kept busy… no it wasn't keeping busy it was trying to catch up. He only had 4 days to get everything he missed made up before the Thanksgiving Break. It wasn't avoiding anything. "You saw me between classes, Sissy." He pointed out.
Narissa shrugged and moved to settle on the end of the bed, looking at him with a rare seriousness. It was strange to see on her face and yet it suited for the moment. She was worried now- again- over her brother. Now his emotions, not his physical state. “How are you?” Ignoring the statement for now. She knew when she had last seen him. It was not important.
"Freed, Sissy, as evidenced by the fact that you are here in my room, rather than the Hospital Ward." Adrian answered the easy part of the question, ignoring what she was likely implying. "It is good to be out." He continued, trying to keep the focus on that and not… what they had discussed on the journals.
“You really think that's a valid answer? Have you met me like, ever?” She quirked a brow at him, her fingers settling on his knee. She loved her brother. She worried. He deserved to be happy. She had thought Jackson had made him happy and it upset her that his fear had brought this about.
"It is the answer to your question." Adrian replied, firmly now. He was better… he wasn't under direct healer care… it all meant something.
“Subtext, dear brother. Answer what I was asking you.” Narissa rarely gave up on things and her brother, while exasperating, was the person she loved most on earth. She wanted him to have everything, and this was not acceptable to her. She wanted her brother to have the person he loved best too.
"You do not want to hear what would be said, Sissy." Adrian murmured, his eyes downcast. She'd already dismissed it on the journals. "It's done. It is for the best. Better to just be… friends, if he wants that."
Narissa sighed and moved to wrap her brother in a hug gently. “Are you okay?” Because that was the most vital thing. She knew he probably wasn't. How could he be? All of this was wrong, in her mind. She hated Wallace again, more, for making her brother feel that he could not have things like the relationship that he had just ended.
"It is better now." Adrian repeated. It would be, now that it was done. It would get better once things got back to normal. Once Jackson moved on… he'd find something better, someone better than Adrian.
“And again you do not answer. Are. You. Okay?” Her eyes fixed on his as she pulled back slightly. She loved Adrian. That was it. Anything that made him less than okay, she had to deal with.
He wasn't going to answer. He couldn't admit how much it hurt… how much he feared that what he'd done would cost him the friendship he'd had with Jackson for so many years. Jackson was important to him even if… "It was my doing. He wouldn't…"
“I figured as much.” Narissa murmured softly, curling next to him and lightly stroking his hair. She shifted her body and wrapped her arms around him again. “I love you, Adi.” For all that she thought he was an idiot she knew that this was him. He could not allow himself to think something good would last. She would eventually prod Jackson to talk to him, to make things right. Right now though her concern was her brother. “You deserve to be happy. You don't believe me but you do. I just hope one day you see that too…”
Adrian frowned. What did his sister mean, she figured as much. "He was already giving up too much." Adrian justified, trying to make her understand. To justify why things had to end. Because Jackson shouldn't waste his time like that on Adrian.
“Adi?” Narissa's eyes met his again and she shook her head almost sadly. “I know it's your choice and all, but…” She frowned and sighed, trailing off. She didn't think it was a good idea. She just could not understand how her brother couldn't see what literally everyone around them saw, that he was meant to be with Jackson.
"But?" Adrian asked before he thought better of it. He didn't want to know what his sister was 'butting'. "It is not a choice, Sissy. It had to be done." He didn't want to do it, but it had become clear this week that it was necessary.
“I… Just don't think it's the right thing. But you're my brother. If this is what you want. If you are happy?” Narissa shrugged. “If you're happy I'll accept it.” That clause, however, allowed her to overlook the actual statement. She knew when her brother was unhappy. She had seen how he was with Jackson, and the fact that he had done this didn't mean it made him happy.
Adrian wasn't happy, but he was resolved. "You are a romantic, Sissy." But this wasn't a romance novel, no matter what Narissa might want. Things worked out for her that way, but that wasn't his life. "It doesn't matter what I want… it's what has to be done… had to be done." Adrian corrected. "It will get better now. from here."
“And you are a cynic.” No judgement in Narissa’s statement. It was just fact. She accepted that. He had reason to be in some ways but that didn't mean she had to like or accept it fully- she wanted to do something to make him happy again and so she would have to figure out the proper way to bring the pair back together. “I love you, Adi. Always will.” Because it was something she hoped he knew.
"Practical… someone has to be in all of this." Adrian murmured. It was left to Adrian to be the realist - both with Jackson and with his sister. Adrian hated that… but it was his responsibility. He had to be responsible.
“Cynical.” Narissa corrected, though she curled up closer to him. She just wanted to make sure he was happy. He was her brother, the one person that had always been there outside of her parents, and she relied on that deeply. He was a vital part of her.
Adrian wasn't happy. And the more Narissa questioned him… he just wanted to put it all behind him and move on… to focus on…. anything but Jackson. "It is probably too late… to go back to friends," Adrian murmured, almost to himself. So he lost Jackson entirely… no but it was better for Jackson this way.
Narissa looked him over and shook her head again. “I'll get your cocoa?” Because it would make him feel a little bit better she hoped and she would go and talk to Jackson at some point. She was pretty sure her brother was wrong. She knew Jackson loved him. They'd been friends too long for it to just be gone.
Nothing lasted, Adrian knew. Jackson was better though - healed. He had his family again. Adrian took the cocoa only because she put it in his hands. He just wanted to work and then go home for the holiday. And get away from all of this. Except Professor Stark already had several healers and doctors lined up for when they were away from Hogwarts… At least that would keep him busy. Busy was good.
Narissa watched her brother for a moment more, looking thoughtful. “Do you want me around tonight?” Because she didn't want him to feel alone, and the timing of all this worried her. She wanted to be sure that he was not alone with this. It was a lot and it would be wrong to make him deal alone.
"Thank you, but you can sleep in your own bed tonight. My intention is to spend the night studying. Nothing entertaining. You will be better in in your own room." Adrian explained. He wanted space… from everyone.
Narissa nodded and kissed his cheek lightly. “Professor Stark’s elf will answer to you if you call for him. He has for me an- this whole week.” Which made eating and getting things easier. “I'll come by after breakfast to see you, bring down some food, if you want? Or lunch, if you want to sleep more.” She wasn't sure what he would want, aside from a bit of time to think by himself.
"If you do not mind late… we can do breakfast in the morning. It is not clear how my sleep will be tonight, or but sleeping in is a possibility." Adrian wasn't sure what she'd stuttered over. He wasn't going to take advantage of Professor Starks' elf Jarvis though. "If you want me to send you a notice in the morning…" Adrian offered.
Narissa nodded. “That would be good. I'll just hang around in my dorm and eat a little later.” She was early to rise most of the time and so she would do some homework and get herself packed up for the weekend away from school while she waited for her brother to send her a note. “I'm going to head back to my dorm for now. I love you, Adi.” Because reassurance of that was important.
"You too, Sissy." Adrian murmured reflexively. He hugged her - or let her hug him? before she left… And he'd see her in the morning. He would work until then. Until he slept… and it would get better.
