"Ha, if only more people agreed," Ash said but added, "I've read a lot of things in that sort of situation. But not all the time. Sometimes I'm just up late hand bored, usually at school, and so it's usually my textbooks." It was why he did so well on the OWLs and why he really wasn't all that concerned about the NEWTs. Other witches and wizards at their school were going to be pulling their hair out about it, but Ash? He didn't seem to worry all that much. He'd read all the books and would have all these done by the time the first part of the term was done. Hogwarts often had a very good security system, so midnight wanderings weren't all that common unless it was within Slytherin house.
But now it was her turn to answer his questions, and he paid attention to the answers. He knew a quote about that as well, but refrained from speaking it. So she had a dating history but it sounded like the relationship hadn't progressed all that far. At least not if she was being coy about something like sex. So she was actually very good about keeping her own history a secret, or she was a virgin. Interesting. Neither was really preferred over the other, because in the end, Ash's interest in Lyra had little to do with her sexual experience, though if he played his cards right, it would determine how things happened the following night.
"I've never really done relationships for very long," he said, "I guess the longest was my fourth year. Two weeks and it was done. She ended it, not me." Because he used the reasoning that because she hadn't explicitly told him he couldn't sleep with someone else while dating, it meant he could still do it. So he had. A good friend of hers too. Needless to say, she said he'd make a great lawyer and he seemed to feel little remorse about it ending. After all, it was only two weeks.
He amended, "I don't really date either. A lot of work and little pay-off. Two people pretending to be someone they're not and both generally after the same thing," he said with a shrug, "I keep friends, not girlfriends." He then looked to her, knowing that it was probably something she'd frown on. Most girls did, especially when they found out that some of those friends were female and they slept together frequently.
