Although Grantaire had a few inches on him, E was still tall enough to tuck his chin over R's shoulder, nearly touching their cheeks together. He could feel the metal of the cuffs pressing against his lower belly as R tried to shake free of them somehow. E's hand fished into his pocket and easily found the key, but it was another matter to get the cuffs unlocked. The hole was small, the key even smaller, and after a few moments of fumbling, E simply dropped to his knees behind R and got a better look at the mechanism.
"Pardon, R. I'll have you free in just a second."
Before the words were even out of Enjolras' mouth, the cuffs clicked open and E removed them from his friend's wrists. There was a thin red line left in their wake, and E took each of Grantaire's hands in his own, rubbing over the marks.
"I think I should try them, so I know what to expect."
