Not knowing what sorts of reactions that Gracie got, he couldn't imagine it being anything good going by previous comments. He wondered if he needed to stand up for her in the past, or if he was the kind of person that turned a blind eye. Right now he hardly wanted to deal with his own problems, and didn't feel like he knew anybody well enough to get involved. But he felt that same stirring of protective instinct that he did with Ophelia, with the younger students.
"That's not the kind of thing I think I can handle right now." It wasn't a bad idea to go through records, but better revisited a few years down the line when things were a little more stable for him. He wasn't even completely certain what his legal status was in the muggle world, if he was still declared dead or missing or... James cut the thought off, reminding himself to try dealing with the present first. There were a lot of things outside of his control, and getting caught up worrying about them wasn't helping anything.
Not hearing anybody searching the halls nearby, James shrugged, not sure how long this game was supposed to last. "I don't mind the company," he reassured her with a small smile, "But if you're too loud they'll find you easier."
