It felt strange to sit near the back of the class. Every other year he'd been at the front, his poor hearing and so-so eyesight making it a necessity. Now his height had him towering over most of his classmates and sitting in the back seemed like the most honorable thing to do. His enhanced senses had him taking in everything around him, and the breeze from the hall along with the thud of the door had Steve's eyes shifting to the side, just as a familiar figure slid into the seat beside him.
For a moment Steve was shocked into silence, his eyes wide and staring at the impossibility sitting next to him. There was no possible way.
"Bucky?" he gasped, his voice caught in his throat. His whole body was stiff, not able to move, even to clutch at the lifeline that was the dog at his feet.
