Bruce had never been much of a quidditch fan that was Tony’s department. So he stayed home and watched the game. He whooped when the states won, but then after that he went to bed. He never imagined that he would wake up to a world turned upside down. First he worried about Tony until he got a message from him, then he got pissed.
He had his opinions about certain things and one of them was that death eaters were the scum of the earth. He, himself, was a muggle born. He had muggle parents that did not possess any magical abilities. In fact none of his family did. But that didn’t make him any less of a wizard. He half wished that he had been there on Saturday night. He would not have let them off easy, but he had Sadie to think of. So he had to patiently wait until Tony decided it was a good time to drop by.
There was no way Tony could stay home with the World Cup right there in his backyard. Well, not literally, but it was in the U.S. and so he had to go. He hadn't expected the aftermath. The parties, sure, since the home team had won, but the Death Eaters? It'd been 30 years. The last time he remembered them was when he was 14. Seeing the mark in the sky had knocked him into action and he fought alongside a number of aurors and helped with the clearing out of the population in the area.
Heading to Bruce's on Tuesday was something that had to happen too. He apparated over and knocked on the door- though he didn't wait for a response, just walking in and looking around. "No explosions today? What kind of greeting is that?"
Bruce sighed at Tony. "Good to see you too. Good to see not died." Bruce had not been able to focus much on his experiments. He had been too worried about Tony to really care about much else. Tony was his best friend, but more than that Bruce had been in love with him for over the past many years, he was just good at hiding it. He had been married once and dated many people. Tony had slept with just about everyone. He had cleaned up his act, but it was still not to the point that Bruce thought Tony could know. Ae knew it would change their friendship, he just didn't know if it would be for the better.
"What happened?" They both knew that USA Today had sugarcoated the story. "I am just glad Sadie does not like quidditch." He could not imagine what would have happened if he lost his daughter. She was the bright star in his life.
"Still alive." Tony patted his chest at the spot he'd placed his electromagnetic device and smirked. "Take a whole lot more than some Death Eaters to take out Tony Stark." Because it was true. He was pretty sure that he could get through nearly anything alive. He had managed to survive this long with his lifestyle and that was quite a feat honestly.
"I'm positive it was a real attack, which means it'll happen again. I'll be working out new wards and protections for this place before you come back, make sure that everything's up to standard." Because that was important. Keeping Bruce intact was important to him.
Bruce just sighed, he sometimes hated how blase Tony was with the thought of death. “Still, I don’t like the thought.” Bruce ran his hand through his greying hair, it was half from being the father of a teenage daughter and half from being the best friend to Tony Stark. One day there might not be luck to save him.
“I knew it was more than what they said. One attack will not be enough.” He was thankful that his daughter was a half-blood, that put her low in the list for murder, but he also knew that his he was higher up. He was well known for his writing and views. “Not sure that will be enough.” He sighed. “But you need to focus on the school rather than me. They need your help.”
"I'm fine. All in one piece." Because that was the point really. He didn't need to worry because he would in the end always come out fine, no matter what ended up happening. It was one of his talents.
"No. It won't." Tony looked uncharacteristically serious for a moment and shook his head. "I'll focus where I want to focus. The school has me when I'm there. That's not now." Because he was worried about outside safety right now.
One piece for now, that still didn’t stop Bruce from being scared. He could have lost his best friend without even knowing it. That was what he was most focused on right now.
"Unless you have forgotten, I am also there. My home does not need protection over the school.” The students were more important. "Do you want some tea?" Bruce needed to do something, need to do something with his hands and potions were really out of the question at this moment. He still did need to make a potion for Tony, but he would get on that after he calmed down.
"You are. But on the holidays you aren't. And so this place needs protections too." Tony didn't really worry himself as much on his own locations. He had both muggle and magical security and also the fact that he was pureblood to protect him. Bruce didn't have any of that on his cottage and Tony wanted that fixed.
It was easier to not argue with Tony, but in the mood he was Bruce did not care. Bruce’s temper could rival hell itself. He was not that angry right now, but he could get there. “If they want to fucking blow me up they can damn well try. Now do you want any tea or not!?” He needed to remember for his daughter’s sake, but if push came to shove she could live with her mother. It was really Tony that still made him worry. He was still not over that he could have lost his best friend.
"Tea will be fine." A smirk curved his lips as he responded, calmly. Bruce could get fired up so easily. Tony tended to be much calmer on a normal basis. It just didn't make much sense to get angry for things like that. "I'm fine, Bruce." Because unlike his friend, he wasn't all that worried about something killing him.
Turning back to his kitchen he started to make the tea. He didn’t use as much magic as he could. He was able body enough to turn on the stove and fill the kettle on his own. Once the kettle was on to boil he turned around to Tony again. “How bad was it? I mean after the attack. I can only imagine the attack and the chaos.” It had to have been bad, but it was always the aftermath that created the most panic. That was what the death eaters were wanted to create. Chaos and panic so that people would be scared enough to help or get out of the way.
“Eleven dead, like they said. It was a mess. Everyone was petrified, and so there was just…” Tony shook his head a little. “At least some of the lives had to have been because of the stampedes, not just the Death Eaters. Wish I could’ve taken some of their asses down.” He was a skilled duelist, and so he would have fought if there had not been more need for him to help the people that were running, injured, and panicked.
Bruce shivered at the thought. He had created enough panic in in his own life. Though being a wolf was vastly different from being soulless assholes that just wanted to terrorize people. “I wish I had been there. Could have taken out a few of them myself.” If only he could change into a wolf at will. That would have been the best. He could have ripped someone’s throat out without giving it much thought. He shook that off as the kettle started to whistle. Turning back he made the teas.
Tony nodded. "We'll just be prepared for next time." He would be working on wards and spells to use. Maybe an identification matrix that would allow the masks to be associated with previous known death eaters. He didn't know what else to do, and he hated that feeling.
Bruce sat both of the teas down on the table and then stood there for a moment like he had forgotten what to do next. Then he remembered and got out the sugar. “I have a feeling that Emrys will take this seriously, but that no one else will. If they think this is a one off attack then people will be vulnerable. Muggle borns, especially.” Bruce had just been in school when Nyx was in power and that had terrified him.
Tony nodded. What Bruce said was logical. The threats would not be taken seriously until it could not be avoided. "I'll speak to Jarvis about ensuring that some of my workers are continuing development on protective and offensive items." Because it would be much can better if people could protect themselves.
Bruce finally sat down at the table but he had not really touched his tea. “If something does happen, and you know it might whether it is this or..the other thing, I want you to make sure that Sadie’s mother does not ruin her life. Sadie does not like being around such pompousness and my ex cannot see that.” Bruce had always wanted his best friend to be the godfather to his daughter, but rational won over heart. Tony was not good for that type of job.
"She'll be looked after." Tony looked slightly incredulous that Bruce even had to suggest that. It was a given in his mind. He had far more than enough money to provide for the girl, and really he was sure that it wouldn't be a huge issue. "People don't find out about what you're brewing for me. I'm sure you knew that but... The kid isn't likely to take this well, so it's not something I want as tabloid fodder."
“Who would? All of a sudden your father pops out of nowhere. He is going to take some time to really let it sink in.” Bruce said. This was something he could focus on. It was not a large problem for him, well as large as someone trying to kill people. “What do you think would be his thoughts on all this? To my knowledge he does not have much to do with his mother, and you never knew you had a child.”
Tony nodded. It was true. It would take time to build a relationship with the boy. "I... Don't know." Because he personally would have been glad to have a father who cared to recognize he existed, but then Adrian had that in his foster or adoptive father. "Most don't even know he's her son, seems to me. He didn't acknowledge it until I pressed the point."
Bruce looked up at his friend. Finally something that Tony was unsure of. It was refreshing, but strange. “I always assumed that he had been born to another father or before their marriage, since they do have different last names. Though I can see you in him a little. The subtle parts that no one else can see unless they have been with you for a long time. Just be careful that you don’t push too hard.”
Tony shrugged. "Yeah. I never much thought about it. We knew Isolde was a Battye before she got married." Because they had all been around the same time at school, though Isolde - he thought- was a year or two older. The sisters had looked alike and so none of it would have come to his mind unless prodded there by something. "It's weird. Me being a father."
“Well you became one by accident, I made a child on purpose.” He said. “But you will grow into, hopefully.” It would be an interesting change to see, and Bruce would document it all the way. Tony might change but then again he might not. He would just have to see. “As long as Wallace stays away.”
