"We might." The prospect was incredibly exciting and his stomach was swooping in joy.
She presented a good point. "I'll go find out. Yell if they start hatching." He patted her shoulder and stood up straight, striding out to the main room where the men were still tied up. "The eggs are hatching. We need to know what they are and what food you have for them."
One of the men spit at him and Derek stomped on his hand, grinding the heel of his boot in. "What was that? Try again?"
"Stop!" one of the others called. He was a small mousy man who didn't look like he belonged with the rest of them. "Stop, I'll tell you, don't hurt them. Please. The eggs are dragons that I have bred to be very small and less dangerous than their larger counterparts. They don't have the capacity to breathe fire and will not get very large. They eat meat and blood as most dragons do, which is in a refrigerator in the back room."
"Shut up," one of them hissed, but the man continued on. "I would like to see them survive, so I'll help you. You're going to call the aurors on us so tell them what I did."
Derek ignored him and went to retrieve some of the blood from the fridge, figuring that would be best until they determined that the little ones had teeth. He returned to Bella. "What'd I miss, Rose?"
