Christine knew better than to interfere with her father, but she was pleased to listen to Wan answer everything. He might not have been overly informative on his answers, but she was beginning to learn that he didn't give a bunch of detail. Maybe he was more the type of guy that needed to get to know someone better before going into details and she could understand that, especially with what he had told her. If she were in Wan's shoes, she'd likely be somewhat protective of her past until she knew the intentions of the person asking.
Charles sat there, with a pleasant smile on his lips and nodded along with Wan's answers. Standing back up, he was silent for a moment. "Don't break her heart. That's all I ask." Annabel just rolled her eyes and laughed, moving to take the first batch of cookies out of the oven. "Are you staying for dinner, Wan? I've never gotten out of the habit of cooking for four and Christine's brother, Adam, doesn't live at home anymore. So there's plenty to be had," she told him.
Grabbing two bottles of water, she used her other hand to grab Wan and began dragging him to the backyard and pool. "Yes, he's going to stay. I'm making sure of it. We'll see you later," she called over her shoulder. Once firmly outside, she gave a bottle to him and moved to sit with her feet in the water.
