"Ah, his mistake was he got greedy," Ash said, "Or didn't ask the right questions to start. Rookie mistake." He shook his head, having heard such a tale before from others. It was amazing that people like that thought they could get away with it. Chances were the DJ was good, but he could get blacklisted pretty fast for that sort of thing. Private parties were not music festivals, but it put the DJs names in the right circles. Half the pay was likely the least of this guy's worries.
He wished he'd been there to see her chew that guy out. It would've been hilarious and also really hot.
Some people might argue with the reality of their situation, but Sera knew it like Ash did. You didn't argue with families like theirs. It just got you disowned and a social pariah. It also made you seem like you were trying too hard to break the mold. Then you were just a laughing stock. James had spoken of marriage to Poppy in the future and Ash wondered if James was really ready for the fallout that came with that. Poppy was pureblood, sure, but she came from a family with no real influence or wealth.
"No," he said, "Well, maybe. I don't know. They hardly tell me anything until it's already been set in stone. I guess they're in talks, but chances are I'll find out on the way to be introduced to whoever she is. What about you? Your dad already digging through family trees and finding the best stock?" Ash wouldn't be surprised if her father had looked at him. Not that Ash was arrogant (which he actually was), but his family was a good strong pureblood line with various connections in many powerful positions in not only America but also in Europe.
