"The entire time you kept coaxing me to join them, and then in the end made a deal just to make me go against the very thing I didn't want to do tonight, Rey, of course I believe that of you. What else could I think?" There was obviously something about Ben that just hated his parents, hated her father. He never gave a reason, and perhaps there really wasn't one, some people just hated. It was obvious, though, that he did resent them for their political careers, and hated Luke for not giving him power.
Ben frowned and raised a brow, "We didn't create them, but they exist. They're out there, and that means they can be used against them. Knowing a shielding spell can only help you so far, you have to understand how they work. For someone to really use them, they have to feel it, truly want to cause harm. And the darker they are? The more powerful the spell, knowing that, and understanding that deeply? Allows you to defend against it better."
He laughed then, mockingly, "Your father is yet another sheep like the professors of Hogwarts. You're too smart to listen to them, Rey. Light cannot exist without darkness. It was born in darkness, from it. They balance each other, to deny the darkness is to be naive and smug."
