Molly was glad to get out of the house and to somewhere that she could be free of the near-constant supervision of her parents. Well, more her mom. Her dad tended to accept her a bit more, though he was still very confused by her magic, her style of dress, and pretty much everything else about her. She loved him though so she accepted that. Right now though she was just glad to be anywhere but home, especially since she was of age and able to use magic. Not that she was using it right now, since Harry was still mad at her for what she’d done.
She arrived in Marble City and wandered for a bit, buying her schoolbooks and other supplies before heading out toward the pitch she was told was there. She would meet up with Stiles and they could test him out beforehand. Not that he would not have to test with the whole team, but it was better if she could see a little of what he could do before he actually tried so she knew what she had to work with.
Stiles was nervous and excited all at the same time. He had been waiting years to try out for the Quidditch team and he was finally going to get his shot. Well he would have the captain take a look at what he got which would give him an edge come tryouts. Or maybe he was overestimating his own abilities and he would be rejected. That thought made him even more nervous and caused him to stumble over his own feet as he stepped out onto the quidditch field.
“Sorry that I’m late!” Stiles called out when he spotted Molly waiting for him, “but Batman wanted to stop and smell everything along the way until I picked him up.” Stiles lifted the husky puppy that was in one arm up a little to show Molly as he continued to walk towards her. “I hope it’s okay that he is here. He shouldn’t be a problem but I didn’t want to leave him at home alone. He tends to howl which drives our neighbours nuts.”
Molly was open to people that showed they really wanted to be on the team, and contacting her in the summer for a trial certainly showed that. She lifted her hand in a wave, greeting him as he approached and then bending to greet the puppy as well, laughing. She loved animals in general, and even though it was in the boy's arms, she was tall enough that she did have to bend a bit to pet the pup.
"I'll excuse you with this little guy. He's adorable!" She'd already said that on his journal when he put up the picture but it was true. "I'll take him so you can show me your flying, and then I'll block a goal so you can show me your chasing skills." She wasn't amazing at keeping, but she could do enough to see if he had any skill in making goals.
“Sure thing!” Stiles was upbeat and excited to do this though the way he was gripping his broom in his other hand also said he was nervous. He happily handed Batman over to Molly who didn’t make shy or threatening noises. No the puppy started to happily lick at her face. Getting Batman to a lot of people and animals was on Stiles to do list because he didn’t want anything to go wrong when he took the puppy to school.
Once Batman was settled in Molly’s arms, Stiles got onto his broom and took off. He flew around the goal posts, getting use to the wind situation before coming back to hover close to Molly. “Want a couple of times around the pitch?”
Molly laughed as the puppy licked her face, nuzzling it playfully. She liked animals for the most part and this friendly dog was no exception. She watched the pup for a few moments before looking to Stiles. “He’s in good hands, don’t worry!” Because she wouldn’t let the animal get hurt while his owner was off flying.
When he came back and asked her about a few times around the pitch, she nodded. “Show me your speed, and do one lap with evasive maneuvers, if you would.” Because those were both necessary things in the end and she wanted to be sure that he had the basic skills first.
Stiles and eager to impressed shot off to do as Molly wanted. He clearly knew how to handle his broom, flying like it was second nature to him, as he flew around the pitch to show off the speed he could get from his broom. Feeling the air rush past him made Stiles feel alive and he wouldn’t help but let out a loud ‘woot!’ as he circled around the goal posts.
Then he went onto the evasive maneuver, turning and stopping without so much of a wiggle from his broom, as he pretended to head down the field while trying to avoid players and bludgers.
Molly was partially watching the dog in her arms but also focused on the boy in the air above her. He had good speed, she noted. His form was also good, and she paid attention to be sure that he had the proper control of his broom. Sure, she'd been brought up in a muggle house but she had always been an athlete and she could see the same traits she had in the boy flying.
His evasion was top notch, almost as good as her seeker, and she smiled slightly. She wouldn't say it today because she wanted to be sure, but she thought she may have filled her empty chaser spot with Stiles.
Stiles was flushed with adrenaline when he came flying back to Molly and Batman. His cheeks were red and he had this bright look to his eyes as he came to a stop just in front of her. He had been practicing a lot whenever he could get away and it was finally paying off. He had felt good about his flying and he hoped Molly saw some potential in him.
“How was that? I mean I know it will be different when there are actual people and objects flying at my head but that was a basic run that all the professional players do. I thought I blew it out of the park, right?”
Molly grinned at him when he flew back around to her. "Looks good!" The enthusiasm was good as well honestly. Seeing that he clearly loved flying and seemed to feel at home on a broom was very important to her. She didn't want someone who would choose another team or club over working out for Quidditch.
"I think you show me that at tryouts with the rest of the team and you're in." She was pleased with the way he had flown and as long as he was as good with the rest of Slytherin's team she would be happy to have him.
“Awesome! That’s awesome!” Stiles grew even more excited at Molly’s words because he knew he could do just as good during the try outs. That meant he would be on the team. This year was so looking up for him. “Thank you for coming out and watching me. I’ve been dying to get on the teams for years.”
Molly laughed and brushed back her hair, which was falling in her face. "You let me play with the pup more often and it works as a point in your favor." She smiled and hugged the dog before offering him back to Stiles. "Seriously though, you're pretty good. You should've tried for us last year. I know talent when I see it."
Stiles happily took Batman who greeted him in the same he greeted Molly, by licking him. Stiles let out a noise of protest and gently pushed Batman’s snout away as he grinned at the older Slytherin. “You can play with him whenever you want. I plan on taking him to Hogwarts so you will see him a lot in the common room,” Stiles stated still grinning before he shrugged. “I had just made prefect last year and I wanted to do well on my O.W.L.s. I wouldn’t have been able to give the team my all so I decided against it. But you guys did well. I went to every game.”
"I should get an animal. Mom would probably pitch a fit but dad wouldn't hate it, and most of the kids would enjoy it." She laughed at the explanation and nodded. "Yeah. Prefect and me, it'd never happen. I got lucky in snagging captain though." While she did well with people for the most part, she didn't do well with rules at all. It sometimes could be a problem. "We'll take the cup this year, the team is well trained, we only lost one player so shouldn't have much turnover unless someone at tryouts does better."
“And I have a really good chance of filling that spot right?” Stiles asked shifting Batman around in his arms as he continued to try and get the puppy to stop licking him. He was use to the baths Batman gave him but he was talking to what he hoped would be his future quidditch captain so he wanted to make a good impression. “And you should definitely get a pet. Though something low maintenance like a snake or a turtle. A lot less messes to clean up.”
"You do, yeah." Molly nodded. He looked good in the air and he seemed to be willing to put in work to do well. She approved of that. "You've got skill and I think you'll work well with the others, so as long as you're there for practices and all, you'll be good." A laugh and she reached out to pet the pup again. "I'll have to see what I find while I'm out here. I'm probably going to hang out a little longer to make sure I'm not disrupting bedtime when I get back to Chicago."
“Also something that is okay to be around a lot of kids. That seems like a big one in your household,” Stiles stated with a grin as Batman licked and playfully nipped at Molly’s hands. The puppy clearly wanted to play and not be held. “What about an owl? Get one of the smaller ones that have a lot of energy and you’ll never be bored and you’ll always have something to entertain the troops with.”
"There are a lot of us." A small shrug and she laughed. "Always noisy but at least dad made enough room for all of us. Extensions and a really amazing treehouse." Which she used to change in when she came home since her mom couldn't handle seeing her in her normal clothes. "You can let him go. Play a bit, I've got time. I can chase him and give you a break." A nod at the thought of an owl. It could work. "Harry has Mouse and Mister, so I'm around them a lot while I'm working with him. An owl would be a nice change."
“Sounds hectic compared to my house. Only kid. Well I guess there are two of us now with Batman,” Stiles stated before he did as Molly suggested and put Batman down. The puppy took off like a rocket because there was so much space to run. “He will definitely play you out before he gets even a little tired.”
"Six siblings. It'll never happen." Molly grinned wickedly and sprinted after the dog. She was tall and so long legs helped her in this. It would be a fun time for a bit and she didn't mind giving Stiles a bit of a break from pursuing the puppy. She could entertain it until she decided it was time to go back to town, or back home.
“Oh it will happen,” Stiles said as he settled down in the grass so he could relax and watch Molly and Batman play. It came very clearly that Molly did indeed have six siblings because she was great with Batman who loved to be chased. Stiles shook his head as he watched the pair run around. Batman was even able to slip between Molly’s legs once.
It was hard to judge which got tired first, as they both flopped down next to Stiles at almost the same time. She loved running and she was athletic enough, so keeping up with a dog for a little bit wasn't too bad. She doubted she would want such an active animal for 24/7 interactions but it would be nice to have him in the house to play with sometimes.
“He wins,” Stiles stated with a laugh as Batman flopped down in his lap at the same time Molly flopped down beside him. He pet the puppy who was making himself comfortable in Stiles’ lap as he smiled at Molly. “Maybe you should get a dog. You seemed to handle Batman really well and most dogs are great with kids.”
"That's what Mouse is for. Harry's always got me around looking after him." A smile and she lay back on the grass, looking up at the sky. "I probably could when I get my own place but I don't think my parents would want one in the house." She could ask but that would mean dealing with her mom and that was just never fun.
“True. Dogs are just like small children that are unable to make words,” Stiles stated as he continued to pet his rather tired puppy who had found a comfortable spot in Stiles’ lap and started to fall asleep. “I should get this guy back home so I can give him water and let him have a proper nap. Or keep him up so he will let me sleep tonight. One of the two.”
"Sounds about right. You were good up there. I look forward to having you on the team this year." Because she was pretty sure he would be making it in and she didn't have issues in admitting that fact. She reached and ruffled the dog's fur a bit before climbing to her feet, offering him a hand to get up.
Picking Batman up with one hand, Stiles took Molly’s offered hand and got to his feet. He was beaming with joy because of her words. “That means a lot to me, Molly, thank you. I won’t let you or the team down come try outs or the games that follow. Promise.”
