Adrian closed the door behind him quietly. Jackson was still sleeping and Adrian didn't want to disturb him. They'd been up late - or early depending on one's interpretation. Jackson needed to sleep before they transported to visit his parents. He pulled on his t-shirt in the hallway before heading to the kitchen - pajamas were okay but not bare chests for breakfast.
Narissa tended to be up early, and holidays were no exception. She could get breakfast together and even without magic, it was something she was good at. She had gotten eggs, bacon, sausage, toast and some muffins together, and she was now seated munching on her own meal. When she heard Adrian come out she smirked a bit at him. “Jackson’s not on the couch. And you're glowing.”
"What do you mean, glowing?" Adrian questioned the part of his sister's statement that he could debate. The fact that Jackson was not on the couch was indeed a fact. And it would be difficult to argue that he'd moved to Adrian's room so that he could sleep in or because they'd decided it would be easier. It didn't mean Adrian didn't spend a moment trying to work out an excuse for why Jackson was in his room though.
Narissa laughed softly and shook her head at him. “You know exactly what I mean, Adi.” Because he did. It was hard not to. She picked up a bit of bacon and nibbled at it for a moment before motioning to his room. “If I go in there he'll be totally clothed, then?”
Adrian flushed a little at her question since it was likely she'd get an eyeful if she went into his room. Or she would if Jackson had unburied himself from the pile of blankets he added to the bed when they'd finally gotten tired. Adrian had put his bottoms on before he left the room. "You probably wouldn't even be able to tell if he was there or not."
Narissa grinned and shook her head. “It is not easy to lie to me, Adi. It was a good night then?” She met his eyes, hoping to gauge the degree to which the two had reunited. “Things are okay?” Because her first concern was always her brother. Nothing else came even close.
"I don't know," Adrian answered honestly. He might've just made a huge mistake. They'd finally gotten back to a safe place with each other, and then he'd gone and kissed him. It was good when they were in the middle of it, but Adrian worried now that they were not kissing. It had gone so wrong before.
“He loves you.” Narissa was romantic. Typically in her mind that was more than enough. They would work things out. It was just right. It would happen. “Give it time. You both will work it out. Maybe some flaws along the way, but you've got a path.”
Adrian was far less convinced than his sunny sister, but then she hadn't been abandoned by her mother. "Love isn't always enough," Adrian pointed out softly. He didn't doubt that Jackson loved him. Adrian knew that he loved Jackson. But that was no guarantee.
“He's never left. You're the one he comes back to, every time.” It was true. He found his way here no matter what. Drunk, drugged, all of it. Jackson found his way to Adrian, just like it should be. She touched his hand lightly and smiled. “You are meant to be with each other. It's just right.”
Adrian couldn't argue his sister's points, even if he wasn't nearly as sure as she was. He wanted it to be true. "He offered to have his family join us to try to distract from Wallace and Professor Stark and the awkwardness of having both of my birth parents together for the first time since they conceived me. His parents are too nice to put them through that kind of awkwardness though."
“He cares about you.” Narissa shrugged a bit and half-smiled. “The Londons probably could use the chance to get out of New Orleans. I can't imagine holidays are easy. With...well, everything there. It might be good for them and you both.” Because if she was right, having the families all together would be important for the future.
"We'll be doing that after the holiday with the trips to New York and London." Adrian pointed out. But he knew what his sister was saying. "We'll see what seems right when we see them tonight." Adrian shrugged.
Narissa nodded again. “The pair of you will figure it out. You do well together usually. I think you'll be okay.” She met his eyes and smiled. “I want you happy. If he hurts you, let him know his parts are in danger.”
Adrian shook his head, smiling. "You want me to threaten your paramours like that?" Although his sister had settled down this year. "His parts work better intact." It was probably dangerous to admit that to his sister… although she'd already teased him about what he'd been doing the night before.
“That's the point. He hurts you and they won't be intact.” Narissa offered a tiny smirk to her brother. It wasn't a look most people saw on her, but he was different obviously. She would protect her brother with her life. Nothing else was as vital to her as he was.
"Except he wasn't the one…" Adrian shook his head. He'd been the one who ended it last time. He wrapped his arms around his sister. "You don't need to defend me… but I love you anyways, Sissy." It was holidays, he could get a little sappy on her.
“You're my brother. If I am not supposed to defend you, my job description is wrong.” She hugged him back tightly, wanting him to know how much he mattered to her. “I love you too, Adi. Always will.”
"There are job descriptions for being siblings? No one told me…" Adrian teased. "Must be why it's so difficult to be your brother then."
“It's all in the manual. You didn't read it?”
"There was no manual… Wallace dropped me off open-box with no instructions."
Narissa waved dismissively at the comment about Wallace and shook her head. “If I got it, you should have a copy too. Clearly mom and dad were slacking on the copying of sibling materials. I think a few pages were missing on the ‘how to win arguments with your sibling’ section…”
"You sure you didn't cut those pages out so you'd have an advantage?"
“How is it an advantage? You claim to not have the manual. Clearly the pages would be useful to me even more if you didn't have it.” A smirk and she raised an eyebrow. “Have you been telling me falsehoods, Adi?”
"You claim that you can tell if it were the case."
“Not a claim. It's fact.” She grinned at him teasingly, picking up another bit of food as she did so.
"Only because you know me." Not that Adrian lied often. He usually deflected and avoided instead, finding it easier and more effective. Lying was more effort than just diverting.
“Because I know how people respond. There's always hints.” Narissa shrugged, grinning wickedly. “Go take your friend some breakfast and warm him up. If you left him naked it's the least you can do.” A teasing smirk and she poked Adrian’s arm lightly, obviously joking.
"He wasn't awake," Adrian argued. Except by now he might be. And it was a romantic sort of gesture to bring a lover breakfast. Or was that a reason not to. He was probably overthinking it. He hesitated.
“Go, Adi. Waking up all alone is no fun.” A teasing grin and she motioned to the fridge. “There's some fruit in there too. Keep your energy up, it's important.” Because sex took a lot of energy- at least with the stamina she had it did, so she imagined Adrian and Jackson should eat.
"We have to get ready to go to his home," Adrian attempted the innocent answer, trying not to succumb to his sister's teasing. "So he can't sleep all morning."
“Of course. Go on, Adi. I'll see you later before you leave.” A small smirk curved her lips as she started getting a plate together for her brother and Jackson. “You both need to eat. Very important.”
