With the winter break ending, I'm both excited and disappointed to be returning to school. The year is half over an the we finally have freedom to do what we will and be who we are. Though this break has been quite exciting and enlightening. How was everyone else's holiday?

I'm not the only one who sees the hypocrisy going on, right? I mean, giant posts hating on people who they say are hating on people. You can take a stand without being an asshat and stomping on other people's family.

My uncle is one of those people you're lumping in with all these accusations. My uncle who adopted a half-blood and kept my family's nose clean. Sorry that being rich somehow makes him evil. There are other things he's done that are way worse and you have no idea.

I'm a little annoyed that my comment was twisted so far off course. I did not say a single word about certain pureblood families, nor their new positions in the Ministry until someone used it as a means to elevate themselves above me. Jack doesn't do well with that. I'm not sorry. I only meant that it is insensitive to offer condolence to those who lost lives and then congratulations for those who took their places right after in the same post. Have some compassion. Find your couth, and if you can't I know at least one lovely person that could help you in that department.

It is not my way in general to organize anything, however given the clear mood among many of your classmates, it seemed prudent. These are difficult and dangerous times. Our family members who have taken up positions in the Ministry are now targets for the fears of the many. Please consider my suite a safe haven should you need one, and look out for one another. No matter our families' involvement or not, and our own obvious lack of involvement, we are clearly marked.

I am already entirely unpopular in my house and well disliked. Therefore there is no risk to me to write today that I am honored by my family's new role in the Ministry. My Uncle is a great leader and all can be assured of his dedication to the position. My father has always been his partner in this and will continue in this role, but now in a more formalized way with the Aurors.

My father has indicated that there will be a private service for those in the Aurors, and that the perpetrators will be found and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

It's nice to be back home and in my room once more. I wanted to tell the dance club once more that I am so proud of you and what we managed to do for the winter showcase! Everyone was magnificent. I'm not even making sense of the nightmares this week. The full moon tomorrow and Halloween - Day of the Dead - this weekend must be distracting Death.

It was skeletons last night, dancing before the nearly full moon. There was a flock of crows in the trees watching. And then the crows joined in and put out the fire, and pecked the moon to pieces.

All Hallows' Eve. A holiday celebrating Witches and Wizards here in America, but it is the Day of the Dead to other cultures. Totally my holiday, clearly. Is it inappropriate to dress up like the guy on the beer bottles? Sam Adams?

I shampooed three times this morning and stayed in the shower for thirteen minutes and there is still glitter. And there were only 8 pieces of sausage in my omelet so I couldn't eat it. I was late to Transfigurations because I had to wait for the stairs to change again. In Arithmancy, Professor Stark made a mistake and did four examples in class. The classroom chairs were in four rows.... only two doors... just one window... Even the total is wrong… four plus two plus one is seven. It’s a prime number but not the right one. I checked the wards on my truck three times but something is still not right....

Everything is wrong today.

I find myself dangerously foul at these pranksters. Honestly, in the shower?? And did you have to pour red all over me? I look as if I belong in Gryffindor rather than Slytherin. Someone will pay for this eventually.

Beyond this mess though, it seems that people are already making plans for halloween. I've yet to decide on my own costume yet. Does anyone have a suggestion or two?

Guys, I just woke up to get ready for the day and I realized something; we have not planned anything for Halloween. What is this nonsense? Do you have your costumes yet? We are Slytherin, we cannot just dress cheap clothes and sneak in firewhiskey like a couple of muggle college students. I have seen how those turn out, and for one I do not want vomit all over the common room floor, or worse still; trashily dressed snakes parading the halls.

I have already found my costume. I bought it for my birthday which was almost a costume party, and then it was not. I am only showing you to prevent anyone from dressing the same. Though I highly doubt magical bunny girl is being sought after by anyone else in our house.

I can acquire sake, if anyone has the palette for it.

The journal is biting again and thus it seems time to write. I am grateful that the school seems to be calming down after those terrible events. We must all remember that panic can always lead to more problems after all so we should remain calm.

But I can also understand people's desire to want to be able to go outside again. Winter is fast approaching and I for one would like to enjoy the calmer weather before it does. I mean the inner courtyards should be safe for now, shouldn't they?

I personally find some of the protestations of grief to be selfish manifestations of personal fear by individuals who wish to appear sympathetic. Individuals who are in fact merely concerned with their own safety, which feels threatened by his death. It is all just a little too close for comfort.

To those of us who actually knew Gareth and shared space with him for the last four years and some months, it is not merely a cautionary tale or a reminder of mortality but indeed a personal loss. Give us your sympathy if you must, but do not pretend you have any inkling of what we are experiencing. Spare us your false empathy.

It is always good to get the first week of classes done and find the rhythm again. It is different in that it is for many of us the last year. At some point it will be necessary to figure out the next step, but that will depend on what develops this year. I awoke early this morning to take a brisk run around the campus. The beauty of the landscape was yet u marred by the drone of hundreds of feet trekking to and fro. It was, quite simply, a beautiful sight. It served as a good reminder that tranquility can be found even in the most dismal of places.in other news, I feel that I am getting closer to excelling in potions more so than ever before even with that rather odd mix up the other day. I cannot say it is a pleasure to be back at Hogwarts, nor would I consider this drafty castle a "second home". However, I am here and that is that. I have learned that one cannot escape their fate. This, I fear I must grit my teeth and soldier on. Classes start back in just a few hours. I did rather well in my O.W.L.s, however that was not shock to me. Thus, my course load is no more smaller than it has been in previous years. I am quite ready for dueling club to start again. Hopefully this will happen soon. Something to look forward to whole here....it's always a welcome change.

Ophelia, I did enjoy our time together last evening. Thank you for your company during the feast. It was pleasant.

Also, I received notification from my father last night after the feast. It's always nice to hear from him.
