Mathis is named for the landowner who donated the land for the town when the railroad was being laid down in the late 19th century. People flocked from nearby towns to be close to the railroad, and in the early 20th century another line came through, making Mathis a significant trade centre. Mathis is home to all of the basics - post office, church, school, as well as a chamber of commerce, multiple businesses and storehouses. Traditionally Mathis has mostly dealt in cattle, corn and cotton, but the times have seen them diversify with a large number of autumn/winter vegetables being grown and harvested in the area. Throughout the year the reparation and construction of the nearby dam (Lake Corpus Christi) has been underway, along with the building of facilities around the surrounding Lake Corpus Christi state park. The carnival is hoping to attract some of the more transient workers from the nearby camps as well as the locals. For the carnies, they’ll be able to stock up on fresh produce and maybe enjoy a bit of nature in the state park. ★ Arrival/Setup: Monday November 11th/Tuesday November 12th ★ Pack Up/Departure: Sunday November 24th/Monday November 25th ★ Dates of Interest:
