Goldthwaite was established in anticipation of a railroad that never came. It became the seat of Mills county, complete with courthouse and jail. Despite losing the railroad it never had (it went through nearby Brownwood), the community blossomed. It became home to a number of churches, a bank, schools and a library, hotels and boarding houses, cotton gins and mills, and although the effects of drought and depression have halved the population and number of businesses over the past decade, Goldthwaite retains a larger population than their previous stop. The mill means they'll be able to restock on flour/meal a little, and although not quite there yet given the conditions, the seeds are being sewn for a diversification that will see Goldthwaite slowly recover. So expect a little fruit and pecans as well. Goats and sheep have overtaken head of cattle in the region by this point. There are wild deer, as well as wild (Rio Grande) turkeys if you look hard enough (as they've been hunted quite extensively and recovery efforts aren't under way yet), for anyone inclined to hunt. It would likely be appreciated! There will be no plot this fortnight, so characters can actually recoup in their downtime - take in the nearby hill country, do some hunting, enjoy that legal alcohol or take pause to ponder why on earth things have been a bit weird the last couple of stops. ;) ★ Arrival/Setup: Sunday October 13th/Monday October 14th ★ Pack Up/Departure: Sunday October 27th/Monday October 28th ★ Dates of Interest:
