As the convoy heads, en route, to Empire City via the more prosperous township of Enid, the winds will blow in a rather severe dust storm. This will occur when the bulk of the convoy is on the road between Perry and Enid, OK. Start Date: Monday September 16th End Date: Monday September 16th |
Black Blizzard? This was one term given to the immense dust storms that rolled through US (and Canadian) prairie lands during this period. How long will the dust storm last? An hour or so, though a finer dust will remain in the air for days. Will there be any warning? Not a lot. The NPCs will direct the stopping of the convoy, encourage people to secure their loads and get everyone to cram inside cabs, cars and trailers with the windows up and cloths over their mouths/noses. What can my character do? Have a panic attack. Make some new friends after squeezing into the cab of a truck they were previously riding in the back of. Take some time to clean up the inside of the trailer they inherited.. in the mostly-dark. That sort of thing. There’s not a lot to be done until it’s all over. When it is, there will be some things to resecure and attempt to recover before they get moving again, as well as vehicle engines to check and clean (oil, filters, etc.). What if my character gets caught outside? If your character gets caught outside for whatever reason they will realise pretty quickly that they'll want to cover their face with their clothing, both to avoid breathing in as much dust as possible and to ease the discomfort of having particles of dust whipped into their face. Their visibility will essentially be zero - the storm itself will reduce that and force them to close their eyes. They'll want to find the inside of a vehicle if they can, or else just something to shelter them a little from the dust and whatever else the strong winds have picked up. Finer dust will filter through the clothes and both the wind and dust will dry nose, mouth and eyes out. What about the animals? That's what we want to hear! We appreciate your concern. The horse has its own trailer which can be covered up easily. Similarly the kangaroo's cage can have canvases pulled down around it. Unfortunately the elephant does not have the same luxury. It will need to be secured as best it can and also have sheets tied over its head and trunk. The dogs can cram in places with the people. I have more questions! By all means, ask away in the comments! :) |
