"I'll manage," Klaus shrugged off the difficulty that would undoubted go into the act of sword swallowing. He had been to one or two carnivals back when he had first lived through this century and he understood the gist of what went into the act. He had to admit, it wasn't the most ideal job and he hardly felt like spending his time shoving blades down his esophagus. While healing was nothing to him, pain was still pain and Klaus was hardly a fan of it. Caroline had seen how poorly he'd handled just the phantom pain Silas had forced on him. For now though, he took it in stride.
"Cotton candy?" he smirked, "What a difficult task," Klaus drawled. "Have you have worked in... anything?" he asked, "Well, apart from various dance committees, of course." The lighthearted quip was delivered with a smile. While most assumed Klaus to be a monster, to be cruel and heartless, that wasn't always the case. He could be all of those things and he was more often than not, but when it came to Caroline, Klaus had shown more compassion and more humanity than he had to anyone else in centuries. So he offered her playful teasing in an attempt to lighten the situation - though there was no guarantee it wouldn't backfire given her general mood swings concerning him.
He had freaked out earlier as well. To a degree, anyway. Klaus had been rough with the man who first approached him, grabbing hold and shaking answers out of the poor chap. His anger had passed for the time being, though. Senseless anger had no place, after all, and for now he needed to assess the situation and find out more information before he could make his next move. "I suppose it's back to bunnies for you here," he pointed out, broaching the subject of how she planned to feed herself here. With no alcohol to curb cravings and no blood bags to carry around with her, Caroline would be in quite a predicament. He doubted she had as few qualms as he did when it came to feeding off the living, breathing human population.
