Jack hadn't been pleased with this place in the least. He had a job to get back to and people that depended on him. He was a man who believed in fulfilling his promises to people, and not being able to keep to his word was killing him. The only upside to this place was that he wasn't alone. He had already ran into Phryne and having her here was the best thing that could have happened in this bad situation. No matter how hard he had tried not to he had came to care for her in ways he had thought he could never care for another woman. Of course he wasn't the best in the world when it came to sharing those emotions, so he hadn't told Phryne how he felt. Even though he knew those feelings were there, and the thought of letting her get away terrified him. The other thing that kept him from saying anything was her clear refusal to settle down. He would never be enough for her....or at least that was the way it felt. But then again being here away from her usual array of men might give him a chance to woo her...if he remembered how. He couldn't help feeling like if he truly wanted to be happy he should give it a try. With those thoughts in mind he made his way to look for her. They had already talked once since his arrival, but it was in the presence of other people and Jack hadn't ever been good with an audience....especially with something this personal. As he walked he fidgeted with his hands, twirling his thumbs back and forth. That was the clearest sign of all that he was nervous. He was trying to push those thoughts aside though. He had to believe that this would somehow turn out like he wanted. When he finally spotted the tent he made his way right on inside. Luckily enough he spotted her and she was alone. So, he made his way over to her a quiet smile on his lips. "Miss Fisher" he said, still not calling her Phryne all the time. It seemed it only came out when he was scared for her life...or his own...or when he was really trying to get her attention. |
