To say she was unhappy would probably be the understatement of the year. She was miserable. She had no friends here, no family. Nothing was familiar. She was surrounded by Muggles and people who didn't believe in magic. And she was in the past. The really far distant past. It was almost a hundred years into her past, and she was pretty sure this wasn't her world. She'd tried every manner of escaping, of apparating herself away, and none of it had worked well. She hadn't encountered any one else with a wand, and the first couple of days had been spent in tears. She wanted -- needed -- her father to be here, because there wasn't anything her father couldn't fix. No matter what Jamie or Al did to her, no matter what trouble she got into, her dad always knew how to make it better. And he wasn't here, and he might never be here because whatever was picking them might not pick him, and the thought of never seeing her father again filled her with despair. When she'd managed to stir up some motivation to do something other than cry, Lily had made some effort to actually learn the things they needed her to know. She wasn't sure she wanted to be an acrobat, but apparently she had no choice on that front. At least not now, but they'd assured her maybe later she could do something else. She wasn't sure she believed them, but she wasn't really in a mood to give anyone the benefit of any doubts right now. Mostly, she was being snappish and bitchy to everyone, and she suspected that's why people had mostly taken to avoiding her. She didn't understand how some people were just ... taking it all in stride and accepting it. She didn't want to accept it. She wanted to go home. But with that apparently off the table, she at least had the sense to understand that her options were limited. So when things were more or less done, Lily headed out with some of the heavy juggling pins. She could make them juggle just fine with her wand, but apparently she couldn't do that during a show. So her options were learning how to actually do it with her hands, or learning how to do it wandlessly and wordlessly. She had a feeling the latter was going to be easier, but she'd give the Muggle way a shot first. Setting two of the pins down, she moved a couple of feet away from them and hefted the one. Tossing it and catching it to get a feel for it, she sighed. This was going to be a very, very long captivity. |
