Jeremy had seen Stefan's journal entry about Elena. It didn't take a genius to know that his sister was gone. He checked the tent, checked where she worked at the carnival. He checked. There was no sign of her. It was just someone else that was gone, but this was different. This was his sister. They were so close and now it was just - over.
He sat at the table and looked up when she walked in. He wasn't doing anything but sitting and one look at her and then he was looking down at his hands. He had thought about it all day, how people can just arrive and go without so much as a goodbye or a hello. It sucked. The people he cared about were gone, except for Anna. She was here. She was really all he had left. He wasn't close to anyone else.
"Hey," he said in a sigh. His voice was a little shaky. He refused to cry. He wouldn't.
"You don't have to look at me like that. I know she's gone," he said and slowly brought his eyes to hers.
