Jeremy was the key to getting Elena to turn her humanity back on. They just needed time. Time to perfect a plan in this setting seeing as what they wanted to do and what would work couldn't happen here. And even if it could, Stefan wasn't exactly comfortable with breaking Jeremy's neck to make Elena snap back in the land of humanity. So they waited. And waited. Even if Elena wasn't talking to him, or wanted his company, Stefan would keep his eyes on her when he was able to. He couldn't stop her from feeding, she would do that anyway and she had to eat. As far as he had seen, she wasn't killing anyone and he assumed that she was compelling them to forget so he didn't step in. With or without her humanity, Stefan would always protect her and this was no exception. The days felt much longer as the time just ticked away and countless unimaginable circumstances arose, but with all of that pushed aside the main picture was still there and that was to bring Elena back. But today was different. Stefan went to his usual spot and didn't see her. It was like there was no sign of her. Her tent was empty, her things were gone and it was like nothing was left. Not a trace. Not a scent. It was like she never existed. Panic rose in his chest as he searched her usual haunts and still - nothing. He quickly went back to his own tent, grabbing his journal. It was the quickest way to send out a message and he wrote down that she was gone. Minutes and hours ticked by and nothing. Nothing. And finally, he tossed the journal aside, not wanting to even look because he just felt it. She was gone. Where did she go? How did she leave? How were any of them going to leave? Getting up from his bunk, he walked toward the opening of his tent, tempted to go find Damon, or even Jeremy. They had to know something, but even just for now, he just didn't want to know. He didn't want it confirmed. She was just ... gone. Taking a deep useless breath, he walked down the long runway of tents, looking for one in particular. A friend he had found her first night of arriving at the Carnival but something stopped him. She was afraid. He had told her that he was a vampire. He wanted her to know, he didn't want her to think he was something he wasn't and with that little admission, she walked away from him and even if he wanted to fix it, he didn't know how. He couldn't change what he was, no matter how much he wanted to. So he walked around the Carnival, hoping to catch a glimpse of Elena. Hope. Yeah, that was such a waste. |
