Elphaba was just doing what she usually did when she wasn't being forced to stand around and be pointed and laughed at for being green: avoiding people. She was glad that this world seemed to have one thing in common with Oz: Literature. She really preferred books to people so whenever she could, after the 'performances' she would grab candles, whatever books she could find in the storage trailers and housecars and find a place to read. If given a choice she would choose science or sometimes fiction, but the subject didn't really matter as long as the writing wasn't atrocious.
She had been leaning against a tree when she heard the commotion. Elphaba never truly relaxed but she had been even more alert than usual because of... whatever those things that had been around the Carnival were. They seemed to come and go at random so she'd been ready to bolt if necessary. Or at least defend herself. The noises she heard didn't seem threatening, though, so she picked up her candle and started toward the form, slowing as she got closer then arching her eyebrows when she recognized the girl as one of the people who also worked at the carnival.
Normally Elphaba would leave her alone, but she was observant and when she noticed the blood on the girl's arm, she chose to make her way toward her instead. "Is something wrong?" she called from a few feet away.
