It wasn't as difficult as it could have been, Elizabeth reflected as she shifted her centre of weight slightly sitting cross legged on Geraldine's back. The rolling swell of the muscles as the elephant paced patiently round the makeshift circle reminded her slightly of the deck at sea and she certainly felt secure on the expansive back. At least she did sitting standing up was slightly more nerve wracking but Elizabeth wasn't one to let nerves get the better of her. That was not the problem with being an elephant trainer. The main problem was except from sheer oddity of appearing here direct from the Empress and being given a job, is she had no idea how to train an elephant. Apart from clambering up on top of Geraldine and getting her to follow her, Elizabeth hadn't had much luck persuading the elephant to do anything else. And apparently elephant acts normally involved tricks and making the elephant dance. Both notions Elizabeth found ridiculous and as such hadn't pursued them. Partly out of stubbornness and partly out of a lingering hope this would be all some sort of bad dream. How could she be trapped as some sort of circus performer in a year that was very clearly the future? Elizabeth was hardly skeptical about supernatural happenings but even she had not expected to encounter things more odd than cursed pirates and part fish sailors. However the time on the road had proved that in fact she could be trapped as such. Now they'd arrived at a destination that left her both less than impressed and with a sense of regret that most of the activity she'd done up until this point had been involved moving things out of the caravan and sulking and trying to fathom how the trucks worked. Though she reflected, as she swivelled to face the rear of the elephant and patted her back causing the great creature to turn, to her triumph. It was not as if she could have practiced any of this when Geraldine was pulling a caravan. So it wasn't her fault if she was not at all prepared for tomorrow's show. She nimbly let herself down from the elephant by treating the rope harness on the animal as it were rope on a ship and patted Geraldine with a smile. "Are you quite sure you don't want to dance?" she asked hopefully. The elephant responded by shoving Elizabeth gently out of way with her trunk and making a rumbling noise that almost sounded amused. Elizabeth supposed she would have to take that as a no. |
