Juliet had to smile as her mind drew parallels. While it wasn't illegal for mutants to hold jobs in her world, it was damned hard for an obvious mutant to even walk down the street in her world, let alone work a day job. She was lucky that her talent was hidden, that she could pass for a perfectly average, non-mutated human. "Guess not. That's why they're pirates," she speculated with a little grin.
Still, it did make her consider how far gender equality had come. That, at least, seemed to be similar between her world and this one. If she recalled though, the women's rights movement hadn't started yet. Or maybe it had started but wasn't gaining ground as fast as it eventually would. Or something. Shaking her head to chase away the thoughts, Juliet glanced to the elephant again before returning her gaze to Elizabeth.
"It changes pretty fast. Relatively speaking, I mean. I guess it's ... different looking back on it and thinking 'well, fifty years isn't that long' but I guess to the people living here, it seems to be taking a long time to get things changed." She realized she was verging on babbling, and Juliet's grin shifted into a slightly sheepish smile. "But ... it's definitely different," she agreed. She imagined it was different in different ways for the two of them -- Elizabeth had come farther forward than Juliet had gone backward.
