If Elphaba said she wasn't curious about the soul eating part of the conversation, she would be lying. She didn't think he meant literally, but maybe if he stopped crying and once he was a little more settled in, she could ask if this was some sort of sorcery. Part of her pictured the look on father's face if he heard about that and her mood improved slightly.
"We are in a land they call Oklahoma. I'm not from here so I can't tell you where it is, exactly, nor if it's anywhere close to this Nevada." Even as she answered, she did half expect him to take off running, in which case, she didn't plan on chasing after him. It wouldn't be the first time this happened to her, after all. "This is what they call a Carnaval, something of a traveling show. And we are to work in it." The last sentence was filled with sarcasm and a smile to match. A freak, she still couldn't get over that.
"Have you not been properly introduced to the place? How long has it been since you arrived?" There was a brief pause and then Elphaba could no longer contain her curiosity about what she really wanted to ask. "What is the DWMA?"
