This whole place was screwed up.
Anna couldn't help but notice how much stranger things around the carnival seemed to be getting. First there was the dust storm -- which wasn't that strange, really. But then a lot of women from the carnival had been taken, by sirens or something, apparently. Now that they were all back, other people seemed to have disappeared, but they seemed to be gone for good. She supposed that meant they'd been sent back home for whatever reason. Fortunately for her, so far she wasn't one of them. Which meant she still had to feed.
Normally she waited until night time to head into town for that, but she'd been hungry, and she wasn't in to taking chances. Especially not with Jeremy there. She got a lot of strange looks as she made her way back toward the edge of town, heading back toward the carnival after compelling the man she'd fed off to forget her. She'd gotten a lot of strange looks when she'd first entered town, too. She'd almost forgotten how it was looked at when a woman or a girl walked alone in an unfamiliar town in the 30's. Fortunately for her, she didn't have much to worry about.
But that wasn't the case with everyone. She paused as she caught sight of a familiar blonde coming out of a store, a paperbag in her hands. She shrugged and started to walk again when she heard two men whispering to each other.
"Her," one of them whispered, nodding toward Chloe.
