She shrugged. The trapeze suited her fairly well. She'd had experience with it and she was flexible and not easily injured if she fell. She was glad she hadn't been assigned to sword swallowing. Sure, vampires had a high threshold for pain tolerance, but she'd never been that masochistic that she'd intentionally seek out pain if she could avoid it. "Sounds unpleasant."
She kept her expression as neutral as possible, not wanting to even give off a hint of the fact that she was afraid of him -- or more accurately afraid for Jeremy. Anna was far from stupid and she knew she was going to have to tread very carefully with the Original vampire. But the mention of her mother startled her and a momentary flash of pain flickered over her face before vanishing.
"I'm alone," she answered. Which wasn't entirely accurate -- she did have Jeremy there. But it also wasn't what he'd ask and she'd never been the type to offer more information about herself or her life than absolutely necessary. "Did they bring any of your family?" Because if he'd asked about her mother, maybe they had brought one of his siblings and maybe there was hope that her mom would show up. She tried to swallow back the surge of hope she felt at that possibility.
