Jo was a competent hunter, but nothing she'd ever faced could have prepared her for finding herself transported to the past. And the moment she got there, she was spoken to as if they'd been waiting for her. Like it wasn't out of the ordinary that she showed up, with a cell phone that no longer worked and dressed differently than the rest of the women of this time. She'd been handed her clothing and her kit and ushered off to where she was "supposed" to be and it left her feeling mighty sour, because she hadn't fought so hard to be taken seriously as a hunter for as long as she had, only to get looked down in a place like this, too.
She'd been given the basics of what was, what she assumed, to be the welcome wagon around these parts and she knew that from the costume she'd been given and the things she picked up about this place, she was meant to be some kind of illusionist's assistant. Great. 'Cause that sure as hell sounded like her idea of a decent job. Having to play second fiddle to some fake magician, when she'd seen plenty of the real deal, fought all sorts of nasty evil over the years and had to act like she didn't know that he was a phony.
Well, at least he made it easy to already start things off on the wrong foot, the way he came in like this. What, they didn't bother to tell him that he had a brand new assistant? He'd been lucky she didn't go reaching for her dad's knife the moment he came in, because she was on edge and waiting for the other shoe to drop, for something to attack her, thinking she had her guard down.
"I'm your new assistant. Guess the welcoming committee forgot to let you in on that detail, huh?" Jo played it cool and collected, although there was a hint of sass in her tone, as she sized the guy up. He looked just as on edge as she was, so that was a good sign. Meant that the guy wasn't a dummy, at least, assuming that just 'cause she looked the way she did, that she couldn't possibly be some kind of a threat.
