new icon uploader
HEY Y'ALL!! not really capping related, but i'm posting this here so more eyes see it.

the icon uploaders haven't been working for a lil bit, but i modified the old .bat file that's been floating around for eternity and i got it to work with ij again. unfortunately, it's only for PC users. (i don't have a mac and i'm not proficient enough in curl to adapt the code! sorry!)

anyway, you can download it here.

if you're a windows 8 user look here on how to install curl.

instructions:
1. place the .bat file in the same file as your icons you want to upload.
2. double click it and fill in your login credentials. if it's not uploading, try running it as administrator.
3. DO NOT PUT IT WITH THE OLD CURL.EXE FILE WE USED TO USE! it'll stop it from working & i figured that out after five hours of banging my head against a wall 💀 use the .bat file and only the .bat file. (after it finishes uploading, you can delete the login.html and upload.html files that it creates if you want. they don't do anything important so you don't have to hang on to them.)
4. enjoy your tiny faces of celebrities!!!

disclaimer: i'm not a programmer and i learned just enough curl this afternoon (i.e. did a bunch of googling) to figure out how to fix it. if you run into problems or it breaks in the future, i can try to help but i probably dunno what's going on either!!! i'm just releasing this into the wild in case other people find it helpful, but i can't guarantee its longevity.

feel free to modify it or reupload it and spread it around. i don't care about credit and you can rename the file to whatever you want.

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS

as a quick addition, if you add a space after

-F "userpic=@%%f"

and then paste in this for each of the 4 image types:

-F "keywords=%%~" (make sure there's a space before and after)

It will also post the icon's name into the keyword field. Tested this 100 times today, worked like a charm!

I just stumbled on this, but I can't for the life of me get it to work on my laptop. It downloads as a ".bat.txt" and when I remove the .txt it does become an executable .bat file... but Windows SmartScreen throws a fit over it, even in administrator mode. When I tell it to run anyway, I can put in my username and password but it just rushes through all the icons at lightning speed and nothing really uploads. The upload and login .html files it creates are completely empty, if that matters.

Any clue what's up, or should I just chalk it up to my laptop being outdated (Windows 8.1)?

HMMM!! i'm not sure, to be honest! that's what the old program did for me on my windows 10 computer. (insert login info and it speeds thru the files without uploading.)

if you're willing to do some Science for me, the old uploader files are here. do you think you could drag the curl.exe into your icon folder and then try running the .bat?

(the over-explanation: cURL.exe isn't needed for windows 10 because its library is included as part of the OS, but i don't think it was ever added to windows 8 so it might still be needed in order to run the .bat file.)

What a strange issue!

I tried the old curl file, and I even went to Chrome and downloaded your .bat so it wouldn't be a .txt I had to rename (just in case). No joy. So I downloaded a newer version of curl thinking maybe that was the problem, tossed its app file in with the batch file... and I thought for a moment it worked. It actually took its time with the icon files. But once I checked the test account, there were no new icons uploaded. I even tried multiple accounts, and nope.

Tbh, I'd be willing to bet this is my computer failing at life somehow. Would not be the first time it was just too outdated to function with something. (Fun fact: I can't update my browser because the modern versions invariably cause bluescreen crashes from graphics driver incompatibilities.)

Thanks so much for trying to help me figure this out! I don't want to waste too much of your time, though, and I can just keep using JW until I get a new laptop with Windows 10.

STILL, that sucks! i'm sorry it doesn't work :( thank you for testing it, though.

i know that it needs cURL to run and that's why we used to include the curl.exe file Back In The Day (when we all used windows 8). but i don't have enough tech know-how to solve it. 😭

Your reply actually has perfect timing, because I figured it out!

Turns out, to use the https/secure connection with curl, you need to have certificates. I tried just dropping them in the same directory as the bat file, but that doesn't work, so I had to go through the whole ordeal of installing it to Windows.

For anyone else on Windows 8 or an outdated Windows 10, here's how to do the thing: click here. Ignore all the stuff about testing zendesk, obviously, but for whatever reason that's the first place I found a tutorial.

Would have never gone down that rabbit hole and found the solution if not for you - and of course it wouldn't work without your .bat file - so thanks again!
