Gus was practicing. It was ranking week soon and although he wasn’t the biggest fan of fighting, he wanted to do South Africa proud. He could glow, and heat up and he wanted to learn how to do something with the heat, other than touch someone. of course, he had to learn how to hold it for a long time first. He had hit the 1567 degrees he had managed and began to concentrate, beginning to feel himself stay there and for another 5 seconds he managed before he lost it, the heat slowly coming down. It always took him awhile to cool down, after all the heat had to go somewhere. Pulling his shirt away from his body, he looked up in time to see Brielle walking into the room and he panicked for a second, a bright flash emanating from his body before he forced it down, pulling the light and the heat back in until he was glowing like he normally did. He raised a hand in a wave, the need to be impressive suddenly over taking him and he concentrated, beginning to heat himself back up, if he could just start a flame, then that would be impressive, or so he hoped.
Chloe had decided to get started with her own training. Her hand-to-hand in her human form was laughable and since it was ranking week, there was nothing like trying to crash course into something. It wouldn’t be Camulus without someone procrastinating anyway. She didn’t mind taking one for the team. She caught movement out of the corner of her eye and realize it was Gus. She had, well things hadn’t been the same since they’d kissed on St Patrick’s Day, and she desperately wanted things to be normal. She didn’t think she fancied Gus, not like that, but it was like they had crossed over some invisible barrier that they shouldn’t have. She bit her lip and without thinking ran over to give him a huge hug.
Although he was showing off right then, Gus’s view was focused on Brielle and how pretty she looked right then. It was that train of thought that snapped his concentration and he relaxed a little bit, the heat beginning to fade again along with a little bit of his glow. Ten seconds later he felt a pair of arms wrap around his body and shock worked it’s way through his mind. People never touched him here, they weren’t supposed to, it wasn’t allowed, forbidden, against the rules and every other way to say that it was A BAD IDEA. It took him a few seconds to actually click to the arms around him, but as soon as he did, he wrenched himself out of the grasp and took a few steps away before turning, and letting out a noise of despair. It was Chloe.
Chloe regretted her movements almost immediately and a terrible scream came out of her mouth. If she had been able to think she would have called herself stupid, but she could only focus on the pain. This was pain beyond anything she had experienced even during her first transformation or all the tests they had done on her in labs back home. This was skin burning pain that knocked her off her feet and flat onto the floor. The only thing that there was was the pain. That’s all that existed. Not Gus, not the training room, not even Chloe herself, just the all-encompassing pain.
Gus could feel guilt, worry, anger and fear fill himself and he began to glow and no amount of thought would push it away. It was tied to how he felt, and it was something he was trying to control and couldn’t. Dropping to his knees, he reached a hand out before pulling it back, a brief flash of clarity and remembrance that a) touching her wouldn’t work, not for another 5 minutes until all of the head was gone and b) Brielle was in the room. “BRIELLE!” he yelled, panicked and fearful for Chloe as he turned his head. “Help!” he yelled again, not caring if he was too loud right then, Chloe needed help and he couldn’t touch her.
Brielle had half a dozen snickerdoodles baked just for Gus but they ended up on the floor when she heard Chloe scream in pain. She could picture Chloe running over to Gus in slow motion to hug him. From her angle, she could clearly see Chloe and Brielle was only smiling. It hadn’t quite occurred to the small brunette that perhaps Gus would still be scorching from his training and she was already mentally beating herself up for not stopping this disaster from happening. There was a brief moment of hesitation where Brielle looked completely frozen, recalling a rather traumatic tournament last year that also had screaming and required her to heal. Visibly shaking the image out of her head, Brielle quickly made her way to a now unconscious Chloe. Burns. She had to act quickly.
Both hands hovered close to Chloe’s burnt skin and Brielle was set on concentrating. The worst of the burns seemed to be cooling to red and irritated skin. By the time she was finishing up, Brielle had tears in her eyes from poor Chloe. She finally looked up to Gus.
Gus was shaking by now, his eyes wide and fearful as he watched Brielle work. His hands were twisting around each other in worry, he wanted to help, to hold Chloe while Brielle worked but he was still too hot. He was cooler than before, although still a lot warmer than other people around. When Brielle looked up at him with tears in her eyes he swallowed, guilt crashing down on him. “I didn’t mean too, it was an accident, I wasn’t paying attention and people know not to touch me in here but she did and I didn’t mean to and is she going to be okay? I’m so so sorry,” he said rambling by now. “Do we need to move her I can’t do anything I’m still hot and I don’t want to hurt her or you I never wanted to hurt anyone!”
Brielle kept shaking her head as Gus spoke, as if denying that any of what he was saying was true. “It wasn’t your fault Gus.” Her brows were furrowed together and she was nearly ready to burst out into tears. “If anything it was mine. I should’ve stopped her, I saw her running towards you but I --” Brielle sniffed before looking back down at Chloe. “We should take her to an obelisk immediately, just in case,” she said softly, though she wouldn’t be able to carry Chloe’s dead weight.
“I was showing off and I would’ve been cool if I hadn’t been and she wouldn’t have gotten burnt but I heated up again and I wanted to show you what I could do and if I hadn’t she would be fine,” he said hands still twisting. He needed to keep them moving before he reached out, to hug Brielle or to touch Chloe, part of him needing to feel a pulse to make sure she was alive. He swallowed and nodded his head. “I can’t,” he said looking down at his arms. “I think I’m still too hot,” he said rubbing his hands over his face. “I won’t be for another few moments,” he said wondering if there was a way he could force the temperature out of him. He closed his eyes and focused, but nothing changed and he stopped not wanting to heat up again.
Her gaze was focused on Chloe as Gus spoke. Brielle was mostly certain that Chloe was okay, or would be, but when Gus mentioned showing off, her eyes flickered up. “You wouldn’t need to show off, Gus. I already think you’re amazing.” She offered a small smile before looking around to see if someone could either help carry her or to get someone to come get her. Brielle began going over the same spots where the burns were to make sure she could heal her to her fullest extent, even the redness seemed to be going down now on her arms.
Blushing right then was probably one of the worst things to do, but he did it anyway. His cheeks going bright red and it was only his focus on Chloe that made this situation stay as dire as it was. He watched as Brielle began to work on her wounds again and it took a couple moments before he thought it was cool enough. it was with a careful hand that he reached out, a finger touching Chloes arm before he snatched it away. Nothing, not even a heat mark. He reacted right then, arms reaching out and it took a second to situate her before he stood up. “Um,” he said taking a moment to think before turning and heading towards the nearest obelisk.
Brielle looked up at Gus as he seemed to pause to think. As she watched him head off, she turned her attention back to Chloe and continued to reheal her arms, torso, and neck. When she got to the area above her chest, Brielle nonchalantly went to go push aside Chloe’s necklace. Little did Brie know that the amulet would think she was attempting to remove it and would shock her. The brunette fell to the floor unconscious just as Chloe arose in her troll form.
Chloe’s brain felt fuzzy and the part of Chloe that remained Chloe and in control was quickly overcome by the troll part of her brain. Her body was filled with a deep rage as she transformed, her clothing ripping off her body. Her skin wasn’t healed completely so all the troll felt was pain and confusion, had someone attacked it? Unsure of what was going on, the troll screamed, it’s only way to get out the message that it was in pain and suffering before it spotted the girl lying nearby. Out of base reaction, it picked the body up and threw it. Then confused the troll rampaged and tried to find a way out of the building
