Quiet is a weird concept. It doesn't quite exist. Never is there actual silence. Never is there purity in the void of sound. Something -- or someone -- is always existing and therefore, the hum of life: it buzzes, killing quiet. The room might be hushed in anticipation of the VP External, but despite the demands of "Quiet, please", there is a hum. Low whispers, the sound of a chair scraping against the ground, the bored tap of a foot... noise. The noise is what bothers Felix as he stands to the side, his eyes trained up and forward as he waits for the cue to enter, stage left. The hand raises, he nods, and he's out into the glare of cameras and neon lights. His seat is taken quickly, a simple murmur of thanks given as he reaches, first, for his water, and then gives an easy smile to the few journalists invited to this preliminary announcement.
"Thank you for coming," he starts, his voice loud and clear; the slight tinge of an English accent is still there, all rough with the melody of the West Country, but it is usurped by the flat song that has emerged victorious of his time spent in Qatar. "As you are aware, this press conference has been called to brief a select few parties on an exciting new opportunity for the students of Camulus. We must ask, until we announce this to the general public next week, for confidentiality in this initiative. The effects of the propose programme will be felt far and wide, which is why, with Axiom, I would like to announce the creation of the 'Junior Mission' programme. The Junior Mission programme will be an alternative to the school breaks and allow apt pupils the chance to work and train with Axiom members, an opportunity to gain practical experience and to complement the battle training already in place. Students chosen for the programme will 'shadow' their assigned Axiom member for the duration of the break. Safety is, of course, the most important tenet of this programme, and I can proudly state that Axiom has detailed the measures that will be followed in the press release packets you will be distributed at leaving. You are encouraged to review these and bring detailed questions to our upcoming conference."
He takes a sip of his water, slow, measured: in control. "Students are not forced to do this, but it is encouraged for all pupils who wish to join Axiom after graduation. The connections made will be vital, as will the training to understand if the lifestyle is one wished to be pursued. It gives me great pleasure to announce this wonderful opportunity. I truly hope all eligible students will pursue this magnificent chance. I know I will be doing so and -- who knows -- it must just help me win the tournament!" Another flash of his teeth; a fake smile, but it is wide, big, and seems genuine. The applause is nice, but he hardly notices it as he raises a hand to calm the crowd. "Thank you for your time. I'll remind you, we will be giving a full press conference on this, with the entire Executive Council and Axiom Representatives, in the upcoming week. Any questions can now be referred to Harold Dingle, our Axiom representative on this initiative. "
