It had been a long time since Jungmo had been out of the dating circuit that whatever awkwardness that would transpire at the dinner table was inevitable. Still, he tried to remind himself that this was Sun Hee, and he had known her for nearly two years now; there was no need to feel awkward. With that thought in mind, he took one of the rice cakes she had made with his chopsticks, putting it in his mouth. “This is delicious,” he said, his voice almost inaudible because he was chewing his food at the same time. He did mean what he said, though -- and it surprised him a little that the food he was eating was edible. He knew she wasn’t a very good cook (even though he would eat whatever she made, regardless), so it was a pleasant surprise. "Good," said Sun Hee, relaxing a little. Even though she had had Yeon Yi and Hyewon helping her with dinner, she was always a little nervous when someone ate something she made, and especially tonight. The rice cakes and everything else didn't taste right to her, but she knew there were reasons for that, and at least nothing was downright tasteless or disgusting, so after he ate she followed suit. She kept wiping her hands on the napkin even though she didn't need it, and meeting him in the eyes was a bit too much for her at the moment. So she focused instead on her chopsticks and bowl. "Training's been going really well," she said. On a normal basis, Jungmo would be thinking about training. Really, ever since he was asked to join Killian’s team, it had occupied his mind a lot. Would he be ready by the time the tournament started? Was his powers enough? Right now, though, he was barely thinking of any of these things, his mind trying to figure out how exactly was he going to ask her out. It should be easy, really. He had done this before. And he was fairly certain that she’d say yes. Other things held him back, though. He had never really cared about what the public thought about him, and getting hate mails were the least of his problems. Jungmo was more concerned about how it’d affect her, and Aiden did tell him to think things through before doing anything. Except that ‘thinking things through’ made him stall on things he should be doing. “I think so too,” he replied. For now, he did think that they were able to work with each other well. “I just hope we won’t let him down later.” News had spread around about what had happened, but it wasn’t something that Jungmo wanted to talk to his friend about, especially when it was none of his business. "We won't let him down," said Sun Hee confidently. If there was one thing she felt sure about, it was not letting Killian down. She knew that the two of them were going to work well together, not to mention well with him. It had taken a lot of thought for her to finally agree to be on Killian's team. If she hadn't known about what had happened between him and Zdenka, she probably would have said no. But she didn't like to let people down, so since she hadn't let him down that day she wasn't going to let him down now. She picked at a rice cake with her chopsticks. She'd gotten a lot of emails and letters about her attendance at the social with Jungmo. Including one from Kim Jong-Uk who was asking her out again. She knew this was going to change the way she interacted with the media, and would change things for him, too. But she liked him, and she thought he liked her too. And even though she knew it was generally the boy's job to do the asking out, she didn't know if maybe boys that liked demigoddesses hesitated because of their parents or something like that. "Jungmo," she said, her cheeks pinking. "I have a question for you. And you need to be really honest, okay?" He smiled at her confidence; it was different than the girl who had talked to him about her worries on not being able to help her team in her mission. Jungmo wasn’t entirely sure whether her plan to still want the Axiom to acknowledge her not based on her fighting skills would work, but for now he was contented having her in the team. Jungmo had just picked up a kimbap when she suddenly spoke up again -- and he nearly lost his grip on his chopsticks, nearly dropping the food. Quickly putting the food into his bowl before he could cause any more damage to it, he looked up, a serious expression on his face. “Okay.” His expression made her eyebrows go up and increased the color in her cheeks. Sun Hee gripped her chopsticks so hard she almost bent them. He look so serious she wanted to giggle, but she had serious business to attend to. And it was better to do it now, when her stomach was still mostly empty. She didn't want to lose anything over nervousness. She pushed her chair back enough so that she could get up and run if he looked horrified by what she had to say. "I like you," she said. "Will you--Will you be my boyfriend?" Then she bent her chopsticks. His eyes widened like saucers at the question, letting his chopsticks go completely, the sound of rattling against the bowl causing him to break out of his daze. He replayed her voice in his mind, wondering if he had misheard. He was sure he didn't. Jungmo could dwell over the fact that she had to ask him first, but didn't. His mouth was dry and he pursed his lips, trying to think of something coherent to say. Knowing himself, he would probably say something stupid later. Finally, he nodded, a small smile slowly forming on his mouth. "I like you too, Sun Hee." There wasn't a lot he had to think about, anyway. It seemed simple to him: they liked each other. Why couldn't they date, regardless of what people back home thought? And now he was grinning like an idiot, completely forgetting about his dinner. She startled when his chopsticks dropped against his bowl. What did that mean? Was that a no? She bent her chopsticks a little more as she felt her heart pounding in her chest. Her feet touched the ground and her knees bent a little as she prepared to run and leave him to his free meal. But then he smiled, and she started to relax. "So does that mean yes?" she said, chewing on the inside of her bottom lip even as she spoke. “Of course it means yes,” Jungmo chuckled, a little amused -- though mostly, he was pleased. The nervous feeling he had before completely disappeared; he had thought she was going to ask something else that he couldn’t answer. “I’m sorry you had to ask me first,” he added, sounding genuinely apologetic; he wondered if he had taken too much time to think about it instead of just acting on his feelings. His hand tentatively reached out to take hers over the table, noticing that she seemed as nervous as he was, squeezing it reassuringly to show that he really did mean what he said. "You don't need to apologize!" Sun Hee said. "I thought you were just nervous and I didn't mind. And it gave me a good excuse to cook you dinner." She flushed again and dropped her bent chopsticks when he reached for her hand. Swallowing, she squeezed his hand as though she were afraid he'd somehow pull it away from her without warning. Then she realized her chopsticks. "Oh," she said. "I didn't realize I was holding them so tightly..." Because the poor chopsticks now resembled nutcrackers. "Yes, well, I was nervous," he gave her a teasing smile. "I admit it, you make a little nervous sometimes," Jungmo realised then that he was probably saying things without thinking again, and his cheeks started to flush. It was true, though. He didn't think she'd make him feel this way. It was different when they were freshmen; they had only started getting to know each other then -- Jungmo wondered why he didn't really notice her back then. He probably did, unconsciously, but in his mind he'd always thought that she liked Aiden and that his hyung liked her back, and he wasn't going to stand between that. “Are you sure about this, though?” he had to know how she felt about it. Jungmo was still holding her hand as he continued, “I can take whatever they’re going to give me, but are you going to be okay?” "Sorry," she said softly, her smile only growing. It felt really nice to know she made him nervous. After all, he made her feel jumpy and warm inside. To know that he had the same feelings only made her feel better. It was different than when she'd liked her oppa, she felt like Jungmo really understood her and respected her in a different way. She squeezed his hand again, loving the feel of his warm skin against hers. "I'm sure," she said. "I don't care what the public says. I really... want to be your girlfriend." He couldn't get rid of the smile from his mouth, even though he knew he probably looked ridiculously happy. If she was sure and all right with it, then he was, too. It was as easy as that. There was a pause, and then he slowly let go of her hand. "I'll get you new chopsticks." Jungmo stood up as if he was going to go to the kitchen to get them, but instead he walked around the table. His cheeks reddened a bit as he thought over what he was about to do, but he decided that the last time he was thinking too much about it, she was the one who ended up asking him out. So, one hand gently placed on her shoulder, he leaned down and gave her a light kiss on the lips. It was just as good, no, better than she had expected. Twenty years of anticipation, and one sweet kiss. Sun Hee felt as though she was going to melt into the kiss. She leaned forward into it, making a soft mm sound. One hand automatically moved to touch his cheek. She wondered for a moment if she was doing it wrong, but she felt that she must be kissing him just like she'd seen girls do it on television, and decided to push those thoughts away and just enjoy the way Jungmo's kiss felt. |
