Who: Domino, OTA Where: The hospital What: recovering from the Sentinel attack prior to her arrival When: late afternoon Warnings: Adult language, mild nudity Status: Unfinished
The fight with the Sentinel had been rough. For one thing, guns didn't do a whole lot against it, even when they had explosive rounds. For another, her team had been trained to work like a superhero team, which was great for them, but not for Domino. That wasn't her style. She hadn't been able to keep up with their shorthand, and had been way too close when the Sentinel went down. Luckily, it hadn't landed on her directly, but she'd been whacked in the head by a piece of debris. As if that wasn't enough, the force of the Sentinel's fall had blown her backward as well.
She was still dazed now, but she'd gotten the idea she would live and be okay. Apparently she'd also had her shoulder ripped up by something or other. It hurt, and they'd immobilized that whole arm. She sighed, trying to make sense of everything.
This wasn't the medical center on Utopia. The military guard waiting at the foot of her bed told her that. She tensed, getting ready to be arrested. This was turning out to be a pretty typical mission, all told. All she needed now was for one of Scott's ex-wives to come back to life, or Deadpool to show up.
"I hate working for the X-men."
The guard started, and approached. He called a nurse in, and Domino was examined again. The nurse said the concussion wasn't as bad as they'd thought, and that Domino was very lucky. Domino huffed, never taking her eyes off the guard.
Eventually the nurse left, and the guard was allowed to explain what had happened. Mid-way through, Domino realized that he must have given this speech a million times. He answered her questions almost as soon as they occurred to her, and well before she asked.
Eventually, he finished, and told her to rest. He ducked out, which Domino found extremely reliving. She let the implications of what he'd said roll around in her head, but she was still having a hard time concentrating. It was mostly a useless effort.
