It was a wake-up call. So far, Sam had almost been having a good time. Meeting a witch, learning abo0ut magic, and dragons, and sneaking around trying to learn about the secrets of the camp, and in general acting like a kid. He had been enjoying being off any kind of leash, really, save staying out of the soldiers' ways. So much so, he had been not-quite-avoiding Four, Six, and Henri. Not that he didn't want to be with them! He did! But sometimes, around them, he felt like a complete outsider. He wasn't part of their species, their grouping. He liked being part of the team, but sometimes he felt like he wasn't. Which made sense.
Today, he had been contemplating sneaking into the military section to try to learn more, when the alarm went off. From sheer excitement and a desire to see what was happening, he raced to the front, And he was there to see the soldier running in toward the camp. At first he was smiling, until the first man went down, and was eaten, right there. Something shifted in him,m and a burning sense of anger boiled upward. Before he knew it, he was running forward, and then landing on one knee, the Mogadorian weapon in his hands, and aiming. years of x-box games, years of aiming and shooting against all sorts of monsters, slipped into focus, and the gun hummed as it spit out energy bolts.
One after another caught dinosaurs as they closed in on where the soldiers were, as the bunched up at the rope bridge to camp. One after another of the dinosaur were flung back into the trees with a crackling discharge and a sickening sound. His stomach churned and twisted, but he forced it down. He would be sick later.
Now, he was angry, and he fired, and fired, tears in his eyes without him even noticing, until suddenly, the soldiers were all across, and the dinosaurs were just standing there roaring. The gun went down and he sat there on one knee, tears in his eyes, before he stood and trudged away. he was drained, and feeling sick, and feeling tired, and he just wanted to not think or feel at all.
