"No, not rude," she corrected gently, "Sweet." Some times it was hard for her to remember those early days in Cambion City, when it had all been new and terrifying and painfully lonely when she wasn't glued to a Skype call. In the few years since her arrival straight out of Gallaudet and D.C., it felt as if she had found her footing in the reality of living on her own. Of her own career and her own friends that were not in that old comfort zone that had allowed her to keep hiding herself away without having to push any of her boundaries. As she looked at Ben then, she smiled at the thought of it, and reached a hand over to ruffle his hair. "You're a good friend, Ben."
"Oh! And speaking of cupcakes," there she shared a small grin with him, equally bright and mischievous as his, "There's cake for later, don't forget. Ice cream cake, even."
The atmosphere warmed around them as they ate and she nodded her head at his thanks, letting words lapse for a bit as the question she wanted to ask nagged at her. She had planned to ask after, she had, but it just sort of came bubbling up as she thought of doing as everyone else always seemed to, and taking a chance at something indulgent and fun. "Ben? Do you remember Halloween before last?"
