F.A.Q Q) HELP! I've never been in a sci-fi RPG, what do I do? What's required? A) There's no specific sci-fi jargin, code, rules, plot, fandom or anything strictly sci-fi related to this game. You don't have to be a die-hard fan of the genre. The only TRUE science fiction element is that it's set on a different planet in the future. If it helps, think of it as Earth but waaay ahead where there are little of us left. The makings are the same, it's just the setting that's different. Q) Can I bring in a character from another sci-fi fandom (ie The Doctor, Mal from Firefly) If I can work it into the plot? A) Short answer: No. Long answer: We'd really like it if all characters here were original. If we began introducing fandoms to each other and other characters it'd become too complicated and there are plenty of other games around which incorporate that. By all means you can base your own character off someone you like from a series, but carbon-copies and replicas won't be allowed. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* ONE * Because of the technological advances, social evolution and alteration in atmosphere, humanity began to understand what the “rest of the brain” was for. The mind began to open up to new areas. There were only a few thousand cases in each country but more and more people began having dreams and flashes that were 100% accurate and the government monitored these people intensely for scientific purposes. When Earth was destroyed it was not known whether any of these people escaped to or existed on Vega and the other colonies, and the Vega Government did not have the facilities to monitor the mind’s progress despite the fact that all the ingredients needed for this development was increased ten-fold on the planet. QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS POINT. Are there any allowances for “special powers”? If you mean flying, producing fire, generally being an X-man then - not really. As it’s so far into the future there will of course be advances in human nature, special skills really will be “special” as more people will be able to adapt to their niche and be more accurate - think of it as specially trained. Can I have an ‘advanced’ character? Of course, but please note these will be moderated and restricted to a few only. If your character doesn’t have a need to be advanced or it’s not believable, then it’s not really advisable, but there will be future plots involving these sorts of skills. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* TWO * The size of Vega’s country is about the same as North America: because the population decreased so much parliament decided to gather all citizens in one stretch of land. There are a few who go beyond the rules and remain in the outskirts of the planet, miles from the Civil Zone but they don’t tend to socialize. The main towns of Vega stand as: Wessex (akin to english countryside), Little Moscow (the largest city), Edinburgh (the newest town at ten years old and the furthest north), North Stafford (the posher area) South Stafford (the poorest) and Capital (the political city). QUESTIONS ABOUT THIS POINT Are there any countries not existing anymore? Any nationalities? Eastern Europe kind of blends together now. They speak a general form of Russian and Polish combined. America maintained its own accents, as did England but it united with Australia and New Zealand who became one union. The French spread over vast continents and the majority of languages spoken are now French, English, and Polisan (Russian and Polish). Spanish is less generalised as is African and Indian. The Asian community bonded together and left long before anyone else. Are they communities who are culture-specific? Like England, America… It’s rare for cities and districts on Vega to house one nationality only or in the majority. The culture is so widespread in the mere hundreds and people rely more on the heritage aspects of people and their accents to tell of their family line and which culture they lean to. American/British are the highest number, whereas Chinese are the lowest - those who did not wish to leave with the rest of their country were few but they are still around. ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* THREE * Technology is pretty much the same as 21st Century Earth. Because all the high technology was being developed there when it was destroyed it took a lot with it. With Vega’s tight budget since the Earth died, anything really complicated or expensive hasn’t been made or developed. The only things which survived are: Cars Internet (albeit on a fractured network) Tracking systems Radio signals Radio Shows (including music and news) Digital television (limited and mostly re-runs) Public Transport - trains Local Newspapers Factory work (limited to two in Vega) ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~* |
