WHO: Ernie Macmillan and Georgia Macmillan.
WHEN: October 7.
WHERE: Outside.
SUMMARY: Georiga calls her brother an idiot.
RATING: PG.
STATUS: Complete.
"You are an idiot." A loud thwack of a rolled-up newspaper followed the statement, and all Ernie could do was wrinkle his nose at the younger blonde that had just taken the time to grace him with her presence. He had the morning off from classes, and he fully intended on spending the morning outdoors; he wanted the fresh air, and barring the occasional sounds from Care of Magical Creatures, it was pretty quiet. Until Georgia showed up. "Hello to you, as well," Ernie remarked, as Georgia sat down beside him in a huff. "I have been told I am an idiot many times, but to what do I owe this remark on this particular instance?" He lazily turned over the page of his Charms textbook, as he had been trying to busy himself with preparing for that afternoon's lesson. "I do not know what you did -- but you are not in the Prefects' lounge, and I am certain that attributes to whatever idiotic thing you may have done." Georgia quirked a brow, with a slight tilt of the head. She resembled Ernie -- the golden locks were similar to Ernie's, their eyes were shaped similarly, she wore a proud look on her face, their posture was similar, and most of all, she had pinned her Prefect badge the exact way Ernie had pinned his Head Boy badge. No one could mistake that they were siblings. Ernie grimaced slightly, though he tried his best not to show his expression and looked away from her. As if he didn't know he was not invited to the Prefects' lounge. As if people hadn't told him the same since it had been announced. "Have you any other obvious statements to recite, or is that all?" Georgia didn't reply immediately; it was as though she was now choosing to word her statement carefully. Ernie kept his eyes on her, but he didn't urge her on any quicker, either. He wasn't exactly in the mood to hear about every negative thing he had done in the recent past, and while most people were plenty content with telling him just that, he had expected Georgia to at least give him a slight break. Well, he had been hoping, anyway. "Susan looked distant at breakfast today," Georgia stated, as in a matter-of-fact tone. "I assume you were responsible for that, as well." Ah, now they were going to talk about this topic, as well. Ernie looked away from Georgia then, and frowned, as his gaze fell down to his lap. He pursed his lips momentarily, and narrowed his eyes. He clenched his jaw for a moment, but relaxed soon after. "We decided that it would be in our best interest to end our relationship." He wasn't sure why he was telling her this; he didn't want Georgia to worry about anything other than her coursework and actually concentrating on doing well in her classes. Georgia gave his arm a whack, and frowned at him, wearing an expression that matched her brother's. "Were you not constantly referring to how she was the best part of your life for the past year? What suddenly changed?" Georgia was right; he was grateful for the impact of Susan's presence in his life for the past year (and years prior to that, to be honest) but even Ernie couldn't pinpoint what had changed their relationship. Politics were clearly a big issue between them, though it was more due to their approaches to politics rather than the politics itself, and perhaps they really were expecting the other to be different from who they actually were. "I do not know, Georgia. That is partially why we broke up." Ernie's posture relaxed, but he wasn't any happy about the situation he was in, either. "She says I do not respect her, and I sometimes feel the same way about her. People in relationships are supposed to be happy and we never really are." He followed with a brief shrug, and offered Georgia a quick smile. "It is not fair for either of us to drag something on if we are not pleased with it." Georgia sighed, before speaking. "No, it is not fair. I just did not think it would end like this." She shrugged, glancing away from him. "Mum owled me yesterday; nothing really exciting to report on, though. She just wanted to check up on us. I suspect she will be sending you an owl next week." A smile followed her statement. "It is as though she expects us not to talk to one another while we are at school." Ernie reflected her smile and nodded. "Perhaps she thinks there is a great enmity between our houses, and therefore, we should not speak to one another?" Which was, of course, a preposterous notion, but Ernie was only joking around, anyway. "Must be difficult as a Head Boy to deal with Pansy Parkinson, Slytherin and cousin," Georgia remarked, with a proper smirk. A chuckle was all that Ernie responded with, as he quieted down slightly. "Pansy is fine. I just have to earn my place in the Prefects' lounge. I will get there, though." "I hope so," Georgia said, as she got up to her feet. "It is better than the Prefects' bathroom." Georgia grinned at him, throwing her bag over her shoulder. "Anyway, I should get going to class. I will see you later." A brief hug later, she was on her way back to the castle, leaving Ernie to concentrate on his Charms textbook again. |
